As many others, went here because it's highly recommended. A friend visiting wanted "authentic" Indonesian food (which this is not) so she picked this place.
Immediately after walking in and waiting 4-5 minutes to be seated with reservations, I grew concerned. It was full and they put us in the back room with the coats.
Servers were running around, it was busy, but not that busy, and it seemed like a lot of panic or pandemonium. It took us a while to get our order for wine, but that was only thanks to the manager looking back there to see us being ignored and asked us if we wanted any drinks. About 15-20 minutes later the wine was served, warm.
The wine was warm, we tolerated the first bottle, but when ordered a different white. When they brought it out to us warm, they said "this is the best they can do". They didn't offer to have us taste it first, just poured it and said "enjoy". They obviously don't refrigerate their wine, not sure why, they have a huge wine chiller there - turned off. We sent the second wine bottle back (un-opened) and ordered beer. The food service was VERY SLOW. We arrived at 7:30 but left at 11:00 pm.
The main courses taste like ok fast food, from a buffet type batch poured onto little bowls, but even that takes 90 minutes to be served.
We made the mistake of ordering additional starters in addition to the small rice table. This set our main course back at least an hour. Tables arrived and departed by the time we got our main food for four....by then I wasn't really hungry. Rice was good, but the rest was mushy meat, very similar to each other and a tiny little bowl of cold vegetables.
After several hours, we were finally ready to go, not offering any compensation or apologies for warm wine, long delays or forgetting our introductory prawn crackers, they stand above you with the pinnen to pay your bill expecting a large tip.
If you see my other reviews, I am always very generous with the ratings, I understand how difficult it is to run a restaurant with limited staff and so many tourists, but with that in mind, if you don't have the personal to keep up with your tables, then limit the number of...
Read moreTo say the service was abysmal might be giving too much credit. We were seated several minutes prior to a fairly large group, and we had decided on our orders and closed our menus. Still we waited at least twenty minutes even to place a drink order because the server decided to take the order from the large table first, despite the fact that they were not ready, which delayed him even further. When the server finally came to our table, he was rushed and we had to stop him from walking away from us before we were finished placing the order.
We sat for another 10-15 minutes, and the food arrived before water was brought to the table.
There was also a repeated and clear sexism shown by the server who continually addressed me because I was the only male at the at the table, despite the obvious fact that my aunt was placing the orders and acting as the host for the table. Once the server cleared our plates, he simply disappeared for the remainder of the evening. Because we did not see him again, and because no other staff member came upstairs, I had to walk downstairs to ask for the bill. When the bill was brought, my aunt had her credit card ready, but the bill was presented to me, ignoring my aunt completely. She had to hold her card toward the staff member, who took it, but then asked me if I wanted to adjust the total to leave a tip.
Overall, the service had a distinct lack of polish. They dropped silverware several times as they cleared tables, and a couple of the servers, including ours, wore tights, shorts, and plastic sandals, which seemed more appropriate as sleepwear than as servers’ attire.
The bottom line is that the service was sophomoric, insulting, and inappropriate.
I should also mention that the floor was sticky throughout the upper floor, which would indicate that they aren’t adequately cleaning the restaurant.
I can say with conviction that I will never spend another euro there, and I will also notify the concierge at the Pulitzer Hotel, where we are staying, that he would do well to remove them from his list of...
Read moreI was looking forward to this place because I ordered takeaway from them several times during the lockdown.
We arrived, and the place was packed. They cramped us five people in a table for four without any extra seating, which got us dining elbow-to-elbow, literally.
They took our drinks order, 10 mins later the waiter came back to double check on the order, mentioning two bottles of water. We said we ordered only one. He returns with the drinks and the two bottles of water and tries to open both. We have to push to take one away. Red flag.
They offered some prawn crackers without indicating they were not complimentary. I could see the intention in the way they were asking. Another red flag.
We ordered a set menu (rice table), thinking it would be easier and a nice way to try different food. It took 45 minutes for the soup, the first course, to arrive. It came in a beautiful plate, unfortunately, the soup wasn't very impressive. No depth of flavor or complexity.
It takes another 40 minutes to get the main after the soup. A plate for five with some of the most embarrassingly wrongly cooked rice I've seen in my life (remember, this is supposed to be an Indonesian restaurant, where rice it's a specialty). Then some small plates with the different dishes. Looking at the price of the menu per person and the amount of food, I will strongly recommend anyone avoid this set menu; it's not worth it. The food itself, bland, all tasted the same, the spicy dishes were not spicy at all. In general, disaster.
Overall, it took two and a half hours to serve a three-course set menu, in a cramped table, busy restaurant with chaotic and messy service. At least they took away from the bill the non-complementary crackers after complaining.
I haven't walked away from a restaurant leaving no tip in so long, and feeling I was doing the right thing.
I wouldn't come back or recommend this...
