Le Smash wasn’t a ‘Smash’ There’s and old saying keep It simple stupid. Well when a ‘Chef’ takes over a burger Joint it always means some Variety of a special sauce or ingredient you can’t escape. When I ordered a ‘Classic’ No Sauce I expected no Sauce. But the pickle mentioned Isn’t actually a ‘Pickle’ it’s a Relish Spread which changes Everything for me. Give me that diner dill pickle, or Garlic quarters with krispy Krunchy bites that adds Texture to a basic burger. Some Special Relish is Totally unnecessary and Unwarranted. Relish is For Hot Dogs and I hate it on them. Then there were the cheese Fries that were covered in a cheese ‘sauce’ that wasn’t A Simple Cheese Sauce. This tasted of Mayo or Mustard either way ruining My cheesy fry experience Which also went cold as I waited for the burger to be Remade. Now let’s talk Burger. Bun Ratio off, Top Light Bottom Heavy It should be the opposite. Seasoning Minimal but The meat of an aged quality. But when recooked the Burger was Raw in the Middle and without the Bacon I paid 2 euro extra for. I left hopefully without any Digestive issues. If this is the best SmashBurger one can get In Amsterdam I’ll pass. Underwhelmed. Overhyped. Le Trashburger. (
p.s. I literally left it for someone on a trash as I couldn’t find any ‘hungry’ people on my Journey 10 tram stops Away. Yes I travelled 26 Minutes for...
Read moreLet’s start this review with getting the obvious out of the way: very good smash burger. It could do with three patties as options as it’s overall too thin for my personal taste.
The bread is great, the sauces are very good, the bacon lacked personality and texture but for burgers in the Nerherlands, ale Smash is solid and worth it. The fries are nothing special, you won’t recall much after eating them, just plain regular fries. The cheese sauce lacked personality, it was a simple cheddar sauce with milk and some store bought seasoning from a bottle.
Now let’s talk about what isn’t going so great: the burger assembly line is slow, as slow as it can get, and both owners are the ones doing it, so they couldn’t care less about doing it faster, or better assembling. There’s always more people coming in than coming out, and that’s just because service is too slow. Do they need more people? Do they need a bigger burger plate to speed up orders? Only time will tell. The space itself is small, tight, with people filling up the space in the corner that leads to a staircase in the middle of the restaurant, extremely inconvenient. Would I go back for the burger? Absolutely, but the location itself and the fact that they’re still not good enough in kitchen organisation will have me waiting until next year to...
Read moreThis restaurant has some potential, but it's not there yet.
I had the Special Burger and normal Fries. My opinion:
The fries were somewhat over cooked, more crunchy than they normally should be, probably due to the way they were cut. Personally I didn't mind as I like them this way more, but I can see how other people won't.
The burger: I do like that they have a small menu, simple!
Was it good? Yes, indeed it was, with some remarks. You might need to have an option to add extra patty. Also the sides were way over grilled that they become very dry and tough. I had smash burgers before and while the edges are usually more dry, it's less than that.
Was it a life changing experience which you won't find anywhere else? No.
Was it worth waiting 40 min to get it (It's a burger)? Not really.
In my opinion, the assembly line is extremely slow at the moment, and there is a lot of room for improvement. Also the grill isn't working to its capacity. I do hope this will improve.
Will I eat there again? Probably not anytime soon, unless I order over the phone ahead of time.
All in all, I wanted to try it, good food, really slow service and long waiting time for...
