As a Chinese i've ate a lot of noodle dishes in my life...me and my wife are very critical when it comes down to noodles and how the soup/taste should be...so forgive us if I seem a bit more negative but I really do mean it well. I see loads of people giving off 5-stars and that made me come to this restaurant as well but after eating all those dishes I just couldn't think of 4 or 5 stars... Staff is super nice and polite! So nothing wrong with the service that's top notch!
I really think this restaurant has great potential but for me when I ate at that restaurant I wasn't blown away (I just have to be honest). But in order for the restaurant to improve I wanted to give some constructive feedback instead of only complaining.
Sesame Dumplings (6pcs): The filling seems a bit bland in my opinion but because of the overwhelming sauce you probably don't taste it much. Maybe if you put a little bit more Chicken filling + Seasoning and salt you can Umami that chicken inside the dumpling a bit more...I literally only tasted Sesame sauce and the dumpling skin. it might also be a good idea to separate the sauce as this is really overwhelming. maybe it's the Miduo style that the dumplings are smothered by sauce but for me i wanted to taste the chicken as well.
Miduo Signature Noodles: The noodles were soggy and overcooked wasn't a good start for me but okay how about the soup? it was definitely spicy but other than that I wouldn't say the taste is super wow. It actually is quite rich but maybe because the chili oil was overpowering the soup which is their signature the broth wasn't that much enjoyable. Egg was overcooked as you can see on the pictures and the beef was quite dry...2 shrimps is quite generous to be honest! so that's a plus. so multiple things in this dish could be improved if you compare this dish with the photos it's a whole different ball game.
Spicy Hot oil noodles: I really thought this would save the day if I ate a dry noodle with spicy hot oil as I ate loads of these type of noodles in the Netherlands but for some reason the noodles were not chewy. You might need to check why the noodles dough is not chewy...when i chewed on it...it was not bouncy and broke apart immediately. I was literally eating and crying why my I even ordered this second dish as i wanted to give it another go with a different dish...was it just an off day or is Mi duo cuisine noodles just not chewy? there is nothing wrong with beef and the spicy hot oil, fried egg etc but the main attraction the noodles were tasty it was not...
Chong Qing Xiao Mian: I think the soup was bland also the same problem as the Miduo signature the noodles were overcooked. I'm sure this varies day to day and maybe there might be days that it's al dente or perfectly cooked...guess we were just unlucky that day. but other than that still nice to eat. i think out of all the Noodle dishes this was the best to eat.
I think the most tasty ones were the side dishes to be honest and that was sad that a starter defeats a main dish...the slices of Spicy braised beef and the Chef salad...that can't be something the restaurant wants to hear.
Will I come back to this place! Most definitely! I like Chinese cuisine and I believe in second chances...I want to try other dishes as well and give those dishes I tried before a go again! I hope the restaurant can improve with my feedback!...
Read moreTerrible experience, I won’t be coming back.
Let me start from the beginning: We arrived and were seated outside. Just moments later, someone came over asking us to order — even though we hadn’t even had time to look at the menu. We asked to order just drinks first. Shortly after, they came back again, and we ordered some starters to begin with. A third server came back very quickly again asking for our full order, and when we said we still weren’t ready because everything looked so good and we were deciding, she accused us of not wanting to eat. I explained again that we just needed a little more time to choose.
Eventually, we placed our full order — after all that pressure — and then… we waited. After 30 minutes, no food had arrived. Meanwhile, tables that were seated well after us were already being served. To make things worse, the table right next to us — who had been seated and left completely unattended — actually got up and left after waiting too long with no one even approaching them. I asked a server what was happening, and I was told our food would arrive in “just 5 more minutes.” Over 10 minutes passed, I asked again, and they admitted they had forgotten to enter our order into the system.
Eventually, one of the two dishes arrived. I had previously asked for an extra plate for a child, and after asking twice, they brought over a tiny little bowl. The dish had also been specifically requested without any spice, since it was for a child — but it was still served with chili.
We waited another 10 minutes, and the second dish still hadn’t come. At this point, everyone else had nearly finished eating, so I asked them not to bring it anymore. The server said “okay,” but then came back two minutes later with the dish anyway — dropped it on the table and, with an annoyed tone, asked “Do you want it or not?” without even waiting for a response.
As a “gesture of apology,” the waitress brought us some drinks, supposedly on the house — but slammed them on the table with such disrespect and passive-aggressiveness that it felt more like a way to shut us up than an actual apology. Needless to say, we didn’t touch them.
The food itself was actually very good — which makes it even more disappointing that the service was so shockingly bad. The staff’s attitude was outright rude and unprofessional. Terrible experience overall. I definitely won’t...
Read moreIn the heart of Amsterdam, in the midst of tourist traps, there's a gem called Miduo... Great food, great service, affordable and serving a relatively unknown Chinese cuisine: those of provinces like Guangzhou, Chengdu and Xi’an. They focus mostly on noodle soup, but fried dry noodles and rice based dishes are also on the menu along with some side dishes.
The three of us ordered the 'Chef's salad' ( 3,95), 'Fried Noodle Beef' (€ 18,25), 'Spicy Braised Beef' (€ 10,25), 'Xiao Mian' (€ 18,25) and 'Sichuan Red-Oil Chicken' (€ 9,25). Very, very affordable and portions that are quite royal.
The salad really stood out: perfect mix of vegetables and a dressing with a subtile touch of sesame oil and on the background a hint of vinegar. Then those fried noodles! They are in a league of their own. I can't think of any other restaurant where food is served so fresh yet affordable! What absolutely stands out is the broth of the Xiao Mian.
MiDuo is owned by a group of investors from China. There, they focus on fine-dining, here on street food. And, conquor Europe with it. Well: mission accomplished here in Amsterdam! Highly recommended! Oh, a first for me to see: a doggy bag? No, Miduo does not horse around: they will CAN your food, nice touch!
Bear in mind that making a reservation is not possible and they are best reached by public transport as parking a car in this dense part of Amsterdam is nearly...
