To everyone considering visiting Satellite Sports Cafe, please read our review:
We visited Satellite Sports Cafe two days ago, after the first day of SAIL Amsterdam 2025. Thrilled to be in Amsterdam for the first time, especially during the SAIL festival, we thought dining at this restaurant would be a great way to end the day.
Instead, our evening was ruined, and the experience was so poor that I felt compelled to write my first-ever online review. Initially, I thought we were too demanding, but after reading other one-star reviews, I realized many customers had similar issues with the staff.
Let’s skip discussing the food, as taste is subjective. I found it acceptable, but my girl friend didn’t really like it. Regardless, no one would feel happy being treated the way we were. The staff were not only unfriendly but also rude. As foreign visitors, we were highly cautious to be as polite and respectful as possible, yet we, the customers, were the ones showing kindness.
We ordered the restaurant’s “unlimited” spareribs, which were fine until we requested a refill. After waiting patiently, we asked a passing waitress for more ribs. She said, “Yes,” and went inside (we were seated outside). After another 15 minutes without our order, I saw a waiter serving a man in a green T-shirt at the next table, who had just ordered a refill. I kindly asked the waiter to check on our order, and he confirmed it.
Five to ten minutes later, the waitress returned with two dishes of ribs—one for the man and one for us. We wondered why our refills arrived simultaneously when we had ordered nearly 20 minutes earlier. The portion was small, a bit larger than my hand, but since it was “unlimited", we can order later for more, so that was fine.
Because of the long wait, we immediately requested another refill to avoid further delays. The waitress responded in a loud, unpleasant tone, “Refill the spareribs again?” I said, “Yes, please.” She replied only "OK.”
After another 15-minute wait, we sensed something was wrong. I went to the service counter and asked another waitress calmly, “We’re sitting outside at table 28. I would like to ask if our spareribs refill is ready.” She replied curtly, “If it’s not there, it’s not done yet.” When I asked her to check, mentioning we’d waited nearly 20 minutes, she misheard “28” as “38” and said in such an unfriendly tone, “There’s no number 38.” I clarified, “No no, twenty-eight, two-eight,” nearly losing my temper but I just tried to keep calm. She checked her screen, tapped it, and said, “It’s being prepared now.” I’m unsure if the first waitress forgot our order or if the kitchen was just slow.
After an additional 5-minute wait, the ribs arrived. We ate quickly to leave. We could have left earlier but stayed to avoid wasting the food and we did not want the staff to bring out the food without usy We respected both the food and the staff.
But did they respect us at all? We paid for both the food and the service. If we just wanted food we could go to the supermarket to buy food and cook ourselves. But here I say it again: we paid, not begged. We are customers, not beggars. Why were we treated that way? It’s ridiculous that people talk about equality when in reality, some customers are treated worse than dogs.
Personally, I strongly recommend against visiting this restaurant. That’s generous of me, frankly. If not, I could tell friends to go experience it themselves, which could lead to more...
Read moreI have been living in Amsterdam for 7 years. I recommend every person who comes to visit me to go to this place to eat, most of the time I go there with them too. I WILL NEVER GO AGAIN. the last time we went with my family they really robbed us and treated us like tourists who could be defrauded in their own way. We ordered the pork ribs (unlimited) and immediately noticed the difference in quality from the first course to the other extra courses ordered. They looked old and overheated. But the worst thing comes to dessert: on all the screens in the restaurant you will notice a nice image of a pancake with Nutella ice cream and cream for 9.90 (duchpancake), we decide to take one and share it. First of all I want to say it was inedible stuff, it was like eating a lake of Nutella ice cream and cream, it made me think of a broth. but the worst thing is that when the bill arrived, we paid 9.90 just for the pancake base with the addition of 3.70 euros of Nutella, 3.70 of ice cream, and 3.70 euros of cream. total 21 euros for a sugar broth. I go to ask for explanations why they put this stuffed pancake on the menu images for 9.90 but then they make you pay for all the additions without anyone telling you anything.... at that point it seemed like they were reciting a script learned by heart. they told me that the pancake costs FROM 9.90 and that the girl who took the order didn't explain it because she was very busy. (there were very few of us left at the tables). I tried to explain how incorrect this form of marketing is, especially for those who don't know the language very well, but for them it didn't matter... after 10 minutes of discussion, the worst thing comes when I tell them that there are 7 I've been living in Amsterdam for years and bringing people to this place, from there everything changes... they start calling me friend, they tell me that the girl made a mistake. they wanted to give me my money back. I didn't accept the money back on principle, I told him I would never set foot in this place again. As I was leaving a waiter stops me and tells me that the next time I go I have to ask for him and I will get a discount... for me it was all useless now. Tourists or not, people can't get...

We paid full price but did not receive proper service and only left feeling upset. We ordered unlimited ribs, and after finishing the first round, we asked for a refill. The staff took away the original plate—which still had salad and sauce on it. We assumed it would be replaced, but it never came. I had to ask for the sauce again, and after a long wait, it was finally brought to us.
There was no mention of an extra charge, so we thought it was complimentary. But while still eating, we received the bill and saw that the sauce was charged. When I asked about it, the response was basically, “It’s only 2 euros, are you seriously complaining?” I said I simply didn’t understand, and the staff member walked off with an annoyed look. When she returned, she repeated, “It’s just 2 euros,” and when I clarified that wasn’t the point, she ignored what I said and just said she’d remove the charge.
We are not beggars. A simple apology for not informing us would’ve been enough. But instead, we were made to feel humiliated. To make things worse, we never even received the refill of ribs we asked for.
We never argued about paying—only tried to explain the situation and said we didn’t know the sauce had a charge. So why treat us like we were trying to get something for free?
