I was super excited that a local pancake chain had gluten free options on the menu, and advertised many checks to make sure your pancake was gluten free. First, I wanted to order a combo topping option, but was unable to remove an ingredient. I was told to "just create my own" but ordering the same toppings was over 3$ more. So, I did a create your own, and I can't explain how disappointed I was. First, the pancake did not come with the flag, the rippled plate, or the coloured napkin to indicate is was gf as per the website and menu! The menu specifically said the flag guaranteed it was gluten free! When I asked, the server was rude and just said "well it is" and walked away! The strawberries were 4.50$ for 6 strawberries, not even cut up! The ice cream was freezer burnt 4.80$, and the pancake itself was hard, burnt on the bottom, unable to be cut and flavourless. I ripped it apart with my hands and ate it only because of how hungry I was - it took OVER 30 min and the restaurant was almost empty. My boyfriend had the regular pancake, and he didn't even finish it because of how dry and flavourless it was too. Do yourself a favour and go literally anywhere else. At least there were nice windows and the restaurant seemed...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe place is new, nice interior with an open view of the kitchen. Very cosy and welcoming design. Staff wasn't friendly and kept being pushy to take the order eventhough we said we were not ready yet.
I had the American Pancake with maple syrup. Generous amount of maple syrup. The pancakes were fresh but taste wise was average in terms of price-performance-ratio. There was an overwhelming egg taste for mine. I've had better pancakes elsewhere. I was surprised they didn't offer tap water which is absurd as almost all places in NL offers it. The clog keychain with the receipt is a nice gesture for tourist (for example in the pancake amsterdam in city centre area) but I prefer to get tap water instead (the demographics of Zuidas is totally different).
I find the QR Scan menu pretty cool. Anyway, a comment for improvement would be to create or improvise the photos of the pancake for the photo menu, get professional photos taken by a food photographer instead of snapping from a normal camera phone. The ones I saw wasn't appetising at all and it kinda turned me off from ordering some of the stuff that sounded delicious.
I was only curious to try because I live around the corner but it wouldn't be a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe came in on a Sunday afternoon and the 2 other filled tables had already had their pancakes. The waiter, Jan, took our order haphazardly and after 30mins lots more people had already come in and we still didnāt have anything, not even tap water that we asked for. We asked Jan about it and he brought a cappuccino that we didnāt order and said we can just have it even if we didnāt order it. The pancake orders then started being served for new customers that came after us and I asked Jan about ours. He rudely told me that this is a restaurant and that I have to wait then asked what I ordered again and put it in as I stood at the counter to watch. Our food only finally came after 45mins. Another family also complained that they have been waiting for 45mins and Jan exclaimed loudly at them.
This kind of rude and hostile attitude from a waiter from Pancakes Amsterdam is very disappointing and...
