I recently had a business dinner at Kien on a Monday evening. We booked the table in the afternoon for the same night, and the restaurant was pleasantly quiet, with just a few other tables occupied. We arrived about half an hour earlier than our reservation, but it was no problem at all; we were seated immediately.
As soon as we sat down, we were served a delightful amuse-bouche, which consisted of a homemade pea purée and some crispy crackers. It was a lovely start! For appetizers, my colleague chose a fennel salad, while I opted for the veal tartare, which was exceptional. For our main course, we both had a veal steak, which was equally delicious. To finish, we shared an almond cake with milk chocolate and a scoop of ice cream. While the dessert was good, it wasn't quite on the same level as the other courses, but still enjoyable.
The ambiance of the restaurant is modern, simple, yet elegant, and the service was friendly and attentive. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Kien and will definitely consider returning...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of dining here on our recent stay in Amsterdam. What a neighborhood treasure! From cocktails with local gin and genever (try the manhattan with the rye genever!) to the outstanding options in the cold selections for small plate sharing, this was a dining experience that should not be missed. The smoked mackerel with watermelon and feta was amazing. We were in such good hands with the kitchen we even tried the sweetbreads which is their specialty. We had never been brave enough to try it before but the clean plate was evidence that we enjoyed it. The pork belly was also a winner. It was reasonably priced for the quality of the food. The waitstaff were knowledgeable and helpful. We will be back when we next travel...
Read moreGreat restaurant. It was a bit of a hidden gem for me. Hidden away in Amsterdam West, situated at the Witte de Withplein.
Great atmosphere and warm welcome by the hosts. Good selection of wines that are equal part affordable and delicious. They also have the knowledge to pair the wine properly with whatever you're eating, which is great.
Then the food. Great selection of food. Starting with the snacks. Awesome bitterballen, delicious 'gevuld eitje' and amazing fried chicken with unagi sauce.
The cold and warm dishes were also really good of which the Duck liver on brioche and cold dry aged entrecote were great!
I would really recommend anyone visiting Kien. It definitely is going to be one of my favourite...
