Upon entry, the woman owning or managing the place will first teach you the 10 or more rules and make you disinfect yourself. Welcome at Kopjes. Then you can enter the cats territory. We were with our little 2yr old boy who is gentle with the cats. Yet each and every other visitor was told that the white cat was not in the mood for petting now because 'there are kids around now who stress the cat'. Our boy was the only kid around and not stressing the cat but yet all the visitors were explicitly told this. Weird. Unwelcome. Cakes and sandwiches were nice by the way. In total there were 8 cats. Place has capacity for about 20 pple. 8 is very few cats for a cats cafe, especially when the majority of the cats are sleeping or hiding for visitors. Perhaps sweet cuddly cats would fit better in a cats cafe than shy difficult cats. If there would be cats job vacancies, there would be plenty of better candidates that would fit the job to please cats cafe visitors ;) One of the staff girls told me that more than 8 cats would be too stressful for the cats. They dont understand that its less stressful for cats if there is more cats per visitor so the cats are not over-petted, which would at the same time be nicer for the visitors too, who wouldnt have to compete with other visitors to get a few minutes cuddling time with the few social cats around... Upon leaving, our 2 yr old boy was also charged (on top of our generous 30e bill) for its visit. Fine, he was a visitor too and visitors are charged 3 euro but in fact it was the first time in his life that he was charged an entrance fee anywhere ;) To go short: dont start a cafe if you dont get the concept of a hospitality business. This includes chicken tea gardens, dog festivals, fish restaurants or cats cafes. I would recommend people to wander through the Jordan and enter any 'bruine kroeg'. Most of them have a big fat cuddly cat...
Read moreI’m really disappointed with our visit to Kopjes Cat Cafe yesterday, and I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others. While we were excited to spend some quality time in a cozy atmosphere with cats, the service we received was beyond careless, and it ended up causing my friend a serious health issue.
My friend ordered a coffee, but there was no offer or question about what kind of milk they wanted. They just served it with oat milk, and since my friend is severely allergic to oat milk, this mistake led to a severe allergic reaction. This could’ve been extremely dangerous, and thankfully, we were able to manage it before it got worse.
It’s incredibly frustrating that a place that serves food and drinks would be so careless and fail to ask customers what type of milk they prefer or if they have any allergies. This is a basic expectation in any café, especially one that serves coffee. This lack of attention to detail is not only disappointing but dangerous.
Kopjes needs to seriously rethink their service protocols. Allergies should be taken more seriously, and customers should always be asked about their preferences or restrictions. Our experience was ruined, and I’ll be thinking twice before recommending this place to anyone else. It’s such a shame because the café itself has a lot of potential, but this was a major oversight that left us shaken.
Please be cautious when visiting Kopjes, and make sure to double-check your drinks before consuming them if you have any...
Read more5,5,5 This café is definitely a place you should come by to, to have a drink and pet some cats. First of all, food: I had a croissant and some home made ice tea. Even though I am a little bit sick and totally lost my sense for smelling, the smell of the freshly baked croissant made its way through my nose, to kiss my last functioning nerves. The taste... fresh out of the oven, buttery, sweet, croissant flakes all over my face because of the way I dug my face into this croissant... Second of all, service: The young lady who served us was really calm and friendly. She first gave us a small introduction of the "do's and dont's". You can really tell that she enjoys the job she is doing and she basically is in love with the cats. Third of all, the cats: AHHHHHHHHH, so cuteeeee, we love them, no... we live them. They are soooo cute. Even though you're not allowed to pick them up, you feel the love. Of course you can pet them if they walk past you and if you're lucky enough one of them will get on your lap. If you're in Amsterdam do yourself the favor and come by at this café. Totally underrated... Fourth of all, the prices: I ordered a freshly baked croissant for 2,70€ (which was totally worth it), and my iced tea, was something about 3€. Very...
