STACH Café — Restaurant in Amsterdam

On the 15th of July 2023, at 3 PM, my friend and I visited the Stach store located at Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 56, 1017 DH Amsterdam. Unfortunately, our visit took a distressing turn with an encounter that was not only racist but also dismissive of our language preference.

To our shock and disappointment, the staff member responded to us in Dutch instead of English and explicitly stated, “This is The Netherlands; we speak Dutch, not English.” This disregard for our language preference and the dismissive attitude further intensified our disappointment.

It is disheartening to experience such racism and language discrimination, especially in a city celebrated for its diversity and inclusivity. We had expected Stach to exemplify these values and provide a welcoming environment for all customers.

Considering this regrettable incident, we reluctantly assign a one-star rating to the Stach store at Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 56, 1017 DH Amsterdam. It is our sincere hope that Stach management takes immediate action to address this matter, emphasizing the importance of treating customers with respect and dignity, regardless of their background...

Food was ok but mostly due to waiting so long when already hungry. We ordered coke and got some herbal rubbish which wasn't what we wanted. A Dutch lady changed a note for smaller coins while we were here and the staff chatted about this for 5 minutes before our burgers hit the grill. The couple next to us got 1 burger, then 20 minutes later they got a second free one (when ours came out) because the staff forgot about cooking it first time round.

American traveling in Amsterdam! Almost went to a Starbucks but decided to try out a local cafe and I am SO glad I found this little gem. The two girls working here are very friendly. I got an iced latte, two coconut macaroons, and a cheese croissant to go. Drinks come in one size. Everything is delicious! I paid maybe €14 for everything but I can’t recall exactly. They have a large toaster oven and make their food fresh - something an American rarely sees! Fresh sandwiches are an option, too.
