I have never been to a cafe with this bad of service in my life. It took 3 minutes for staff to even acknowledge we had come into the establishment and then sit us down. While this isn’t usually a deal breaker for me, it was a sign that things were just going to get worse. We waited for at least 20 minutes to order, and we were only able to order when I raised my hand to the bartender who told one of the waitresses to come over. The waitresses provided HORRIBLE service. They never checked in on us once. Another group who was seated across from us left the restaurant because no one had taken their order or acknowledged them for that long as well. Another lady went up to the workers and asked if they were going to do their job and take her order. They argued with her that they were busy, which was not necessarily true, rather than apologizing for the long wait and taking her order right then. I saw the waitresses on their phones, restyling their hair, and talking to each other for long periods of time. At one point, they were laughing and pointing at us which was extremely uncomfortable and rude. While the food was decent, it was definitely not worth the toxic atmosphere of the restaurant and the poor service that we had to experience. There was also shattered glass where they had not properly cleaned up. The workers acted as we were an inconvenience for being at their JOB. If you want a nice experience, consider passing this place and finding an establishment that will actually treat its customers with respect and provide a friendly...

I had a deeply disappointing and upsetting experience at this restaurant on August 5th, around 6:00 PM. My wife and I arrived and took a seat, but we were completely ignored by the waiter for over 20 minutes. I called him twice and received no response. The third time, I had to raise my voice just to get his attention. When I asked for the menu, he brought me a wet one and walked away without a word.

We waited another 20 minutes, but he never returned to take our order, even though he continued to serve all the surrounding tables—all of whom were white European tourists who arrived after us. It became painfully obvious that we were being deliberately ignored.

Eventually, I called a different waitress. She came over briefly but offered no solutions. She simply told us that the drinks we asked for were "unavailable" and claimed that other options were also "unavailable." Her tone and body language made it clear that we were not welcome.

My wife wears a hijab, and I truly believe the treatment we received was racially motivated. This was not just poor service—it felt like open discrimination.

We wasted over 45 minutes of our time being dismissed, ignored, and made to feel completely unwelcome. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses such discriminatory behavior. No one should be...

Nice place, would definitely go back when I am in Amsterdam. I see some negative reviews posted today so will leave my positive review.

If possible, I would leave 4.5, but only for the length of time to receive our main courses after ordering. We ordered the cheese fondue as an appetizer and it was outstanding and delivered quickly. My wife even said it was better than some of the fondues we have had in Switzerland!

I had the fish and chips and my wife had the burger—both were very good (along with the beers!) and the staff was helpful and attentive.

As I said above, the only negative was the length of time to receive our main courses, about 1 hour.

I had seen another couple receive the same order we had (fish and chips, burger) and after about an hour, I was about to ask the staff about our order but before I could, our order was brought out to us. The food was very tasty and piping hot so it was freshly prepared.

Even though we were eating well before the normal dinner time, it could have been just a surge of customers. There were empty tables when we arrived but the place was packed when we left.

Bottom line, you may not be able to pop in for a quick meal, but if you have the time, the food and service...

We chanced upon this interesting corner pub/restaurant with a lovely name of Hansel n Gretel. It was crowded, with tourists and locals. We stopped by for a beer after a canal cruise. Location is great as it’s just across from the Ruijkmuseum and right next to a canal. We sat outside in the patio. The beer was served nice and chilled. There was a group of boisterous locals who were having a great fun time. One had put on bunny ears and a bow tie and a cotton tail. I had such a good laugh as he and his friends were laughing and having a great time. . What a lovely group of friends in this friendly pub restaurant. Made my day for stopping by Hansel & Gretel. Will drop by again.
