I am really disappointed in the Bocca Coffee cafe in Amsterdam. At first, I sensed a good atmosphere when entering the space smelling the coffee and taking in the scene. Then I saw the cafe was a bit busy while there was only one waiter on the floor. So, I sat myself down and waited for the waiter to come over. After ordering however, the desserts were missing only to show up 40 minutes later while not being so tasty. Furthermore, the service was quite slow possibly given the busyness and seeming lack of staff. Additionally, the purpose of me coming there was to discuss some matters with which a laptop was a necessity. However, soon after opening the device the waiter came over commenting that this cafe was a ''Laptop free zone'' after 11am. Such a restriction concerning the usage of people's own property may be questionable: Is it truly up to the cafe to determine such matters and if so, is the current situation desirable? At the same time, this ''rule'' had not been clearly communicated beforehand either via their website or any signs in the cafe itself. Finally, it may be advisable to enhance some of their use of language in the menu as a tea specialty was listed under a coffee rubric and the food menu mentioned to not serve food anymore after 3pm by saying that food was served ''all day, until 3pm.''
All in all, this experience has lead to me writing my first ever review about a business in hospitality. Unfortunately, the reason that prompted me was its...
Read moreI purchase coffee from here a lot to grind at home. I’m probably a high value customer. It’s great. One day I went to use my laptop and was told “it’s a no laptop policy”. Huh? This ain’t San Francisco guys ... (I had just spend €25 of coffee in my bag and was gonna check my email while I drank some filter coffee and waited for a contractor to finish work at home).
I witnessed this happen to other customers, while here and the look of bewilderment. The bad explanation. I’m sure you’re losing a good corporate market. God forbid they develop a cafe business culture here (the trend says it’s happening)
This is Amsterdam, and I’ve never seen anything so pretentious. You can use your cellphone though to check email, apparently that’s different to a laptop ...
Dear Bocca owners, If you have trouble with people just squatting here for the day train your staff better. Up sell to customers, serve food. There are better ways to do this than a blanket rule. You lost a customer with a silly rule. When ever I used to work from cafes I’d spend probably €25 a day at least. Just train your staff better and it will work. Also am willing to bet that you have a lot of tourists visiting here for single visits. It’s repeat customers that make a business and this is a great way to lose them.
How about offer me subscription coffee? VS focusing on your worst customers and being so petty with policies that...
Read moreThey charge 6 euros per hour for using your laptop in the cafe, even if you buy drinks and food. So you can read a book, you can sit and have a chat with a friend, but without even opening the laptop, otherwise you have to pay. Ridiculous.
After owner answer: I don't think that comparing sitting in a coffee place checking the mails in my laptop for an hour with the monthly costs of having an office is fair, since you don't run a co-working space with all the services that this normally includes, but a coffee place.
In my case, I biked 15 minutes to go to your place because I saw it on google and I liked it, and just wanted to sit with my laptop, book a flight and a hotel for a trip and check google maps while having a coffee and some treat to go with it in a nice place. Which we did with my girlfriend in another coffee nearby, spending 25 euros in an hour. I think is a fair deal, better than charging 6 euros per hour to pay the wifi, which by now is a pretty standard service to have.
If you want to have special deals for people who go alone, and sit for 3 hours with their laptops staying there and ordering 1 coffee in all that time, it may be different, but not letting someone open the laptop without paying,...
