STACH Food — Restaurant in Amsterdam

On the 15th of July 2023, at 3 PM, my friend and I visited the Stach store located at Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 56, 1017 DH Amsterdam. Unfortunately, our visit took a distressing turn with an encounter that was not only racist but also dismissive of our language preference.

To our shock and disappointment, the staff member responded to us in Dutch instead of English and explicitly stated, “This is The Netherlands; we speak Dutch, not English.” This disregard for our language preference and the dismissive attitude further intensified our disappointment.

It is disheartening to experience such racism and language discrimination, especially in a city celebrated for its diversity and inclusivity. We had expected Stach to exemplify these values and provide a welcoming environment for all customers.

Considering this regrettable incident, we reluctantly assign a one-star rating to the Stach store at Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 56, 1017 DH Amsterdam. Vegan soft serve (based on Oatley) Dutch liquorice flavor, thank you guys for trying a new thing, exclusively at Nieuwe Spiegelstraat I read. Cute little place in an iconic Amsterdam street all about Antiques and art. The consistency, quantity and temperature of the soft serve are perfect. The price is very friendly (€2,95). The taste is not too much liquorice-y but exciting enough. The girl who served the ice cream seemed a bit doubtful if she was going to do me a favor with it and made sure I was happy with the flavor, in a nice and polite way. Thank you guys. Unfortunately, even though I come here almost every day because I like the coffee, the experience is often ruined by one of the girls working there. She’s consistently unfriendly, and today she made my coffee wrong. When we tried to explain, she insisted it was correct, even though my friend saw her make the mistake. She then switched to speaking Dutch in a mocking tone while we were speaking English, which felt really disrespectful. This isn’t the first time it’s happened, but today was too much.
