A 3 stars āļø experience at Taigu (under expectations, especially the service) Food & drink: 1.5/2 stars āļø. Matcha tart is too hard to cut in pieces to eat. Matcha Terrine is also quite firm. Taste is good, but need to give them sometime to āwarm upā. Service: 0/1 star. The 2 girls were very busy with their chatting (with each other not with any clients). We need to ask for tablewareš“ to eat the tart/terrine (there are only chopsticks on the table). And we only got 2 wooden spoons(no fork, no knife). And they didnāt even kindly remind us to wait a bit for the tart/terrine to get a bit soft. Price: 0.5/1 star āļø itās Amsterdam, but considering the portion, itās a bit pricey. Location: 1/1 star āļø. Itās easy to find, and not difficult to find a parking spot nearby. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful.
Reply to the owner: I didnāt give low rate to the food itself. Food taste good, and I believe that you have used all the ingredients with good quality. But this is the essential of any good restaurant. I know what I paid for, of course not only the materials, but also the rent/energy/baker/service/atmosphere/ā¦Iām pretty sure you could also understand that everyone has their own perception of price.
Regarding the service, how can I suppose to know that 1)the best way to eat tart is with hand, 2)the usual state of the terrine is soft, and 3)you would offer cutting service when all waitresses were just busy chatting/laughing with each other instead of explaining to us? Until after reading your comments, I just realized that I missed so many things⦠No matter when I visited your restaurant, isnāt there a standard sop of service?
Thank you for taking time to reply to my comment on google. I hope the service could become better during my next visit....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSushi was honestly amazing. Matcha drinks and desserts were nice as well. Both my friend and I ordered the crazy tuna maki rolls, and halfway through eating, we realized that mine were significantly smaller than hers. I was slightly flabbergasted when the person was trying to explain to us that the amount was the same when the size difference was so apparent hahaā¦I wasnāt expecting them to give me a new roll so that is very nice of them. I agree with the waiter that I should have given them a heads up before eating it, but I only realized it halfway through and didnāt want to make a knee-jerk reaction. So I hope more attention will be paid to portion control. Overall, the food is nice and I will definitely drop by again.
P.S. I decided to tell the waiters cause the portion difference just bugged me since we literally ordered the same item. We were just observing how the personnel would react in this situation, and I wasn't asking or expecting them to offer me a new roll at all. For me, perfect scenario is everyone gets equal portion size, as it took me the courage to speak up as well. It's just my pet peeve that I do not like unequal treatment even I understand that it is not intentional. Everyone was calm throughout the conversation, and we just wanted to get our points across. I thought it was a kind gesture from the place itself so I accepted it. However, I just found out that it was an action taken under pressure. So for the personnel who were taking shifts today, can you please contact me? I didn't realize it was a stressful moment for you, and it was never my intention to let this incident to have any negative impact/consequences to you. So please...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI found this Taigu location to offer a wider variety of food compared to the one in De Pijp, where the choices seemed limited to Yakisoba, or croissants filled with either egg or a mix of strawberries and matcha. Here, you can indulge in an assortment of sushi or opt for a donburi dish.
The sushi truly stood out for us. Even though we were already full, we couldn't resist ordering a set. It was served with authentic wasabi, and both the quality and flavor of the sushi were exceptional.
Regarding the matcha desserts and drinks, they weren't exactly to our liking, but we attribute this to Taigu's liberal use of matcha, which we found overwhelmingly strong. This place is a haven for true matcha enthusiasts. However, if you're more accustomed to a milder or artificially flavored matcha, your experience might mirror ours.
The value for the quality of food here is excellent, and I highly recommend this spot to genuine matcha lovers. If your palate leans towards the lighter side of matcha, you might want to keep this in mind.
The interior of the restaurant is also quite appealing. Although I didn't get the chance to sit upstairs, it's on my list for the next visit. They offer an Omakase experience named Shigure, which sounds intriguingādon't hesitate to inquire with the...
