As an Asian who absolutely ADORES Thai food, I can guarantee you this place serves TRULY authentic Thai dishes! For Real Thai Cravings!!!!!!!!
Feel like I finally found THE ONE. Gosh why didn’t I know about this place earlier 😭
I’ve tried Thaise Snackbar Bird, Soi & Madam Thai in Rotterdam (some are okay and some are good but they’re still a bit more Dutch-flavor). However, after giving Thai Roof a shot - wow, finally something that I have been looking for all this time! Absolutely scrumptious 🤤
What I ordered: • Kao Man Gai (Thai chicken rice): So fragrant, definitely cooked in proper chicken broth. The dipping sauce hit all the right notes: spicy, sour, salty - very Thai, very Asian-style. Not the watered-down version you get at some places. • Clear chicken soup: Light, delicate, but flavorful. No overpowering MSG smell. Very comforting. Feels like home 🥹 • Tom Yam Kung (tom yum soup): Not the star of the show, but still solid. For about €7.5, you get 3-4 huge prawns - can’t complain.
Other things I loved: • Fast service: Hot food came quickly, even during peak dinner time (18:00-19:00). • Thai staff & chef: They were all friendly, welcoming, and genuinely appreciated the compliments. After dealing with the usual mid (or even below bare-minimum) level of customer service in Amsterdam, this place honestly restored my faith a bit. It was warm, respectful, and just genuinely wholesome - a reminder that eating out in Amsterdam can still sometimes feel good 🥹 • Atmosphere: Many Thai families eating there and groups of Dutch customers in the neighborhood come picking up takeaway. Always a good sign when they are trusted by the locals. • Portions: Generous! I came alone, and my chicken rice plate was really nice portion-wise. I even need to take away. Perfect to share with friends!!! • Pricing: Main dishes mid-to-high (€14–21), but 200% worth it for the quality.
Honestly, this is the kind of place that satisfies all of your Thai food cravings 🤤 and makes you fall in love with Thai food all over again. I’ll definitely be back!!!!!!!!!!! They’re open until 21:00, just like home...
Read moreOverhyped, overpriced, and horrible service. My worst experience at a restaurant in NL. Firstly, we waited 15 mins for the table (which is normal) and another 55 mins to get the food (two simple dishes: pad krapao and papaya salad), simply because they did all the takeaway orders before they started doing the dine-in orders. And out of the 4 staff, only one seemed to be working and the rest seemed to be there just to chill. Then, the taste & quality were very disappointing, papaya salad was ok but the pad krapao…. It’s similar to what you would get in Thai public school canteen - not something you would eat if you have a choice. Seemed like the beef was soaked in baking soda so it was over-tendered and they just threw in random veggies to make the portion look generous (this dish shouldn’t have had any veggie except the krapao leaves - which this one had maybe 3 of them). Basically didn’t taste like pad krapao. Coconut drink couldn’t get more fake than it was, like drinking a sugar syrup with floating coconut meat. As for portion, they put food on a huge plate to make the portion look generous. But if you look at the actual amount you get (especially papaya salad), it’s nothing compared to other Thai restaurants in NL. Overall, I would not...
Read moreFood is delicious and authentic especially the Thai noodle soup and Kauw Man Kai (although the chicken was slightly overcooked and not as tender / smooth as we wish but it’s still good). Service on the other hand was chaotic. We visited twice within a week, both times tried to order the young coconut water. First time we were told that it’s sold out, second time their answer was they don’t serve it as a whole coconut. Fine, but every time after they said that I saw them serving a whole young coconut to other customers after us! When asked, staff at the cashier told us she also had no idea. Very confusing and disappointing 😞
Another not-so-satisfactory experience has to do with their internal communication breakdown. We ordered a Pad krapow with minced pork and fried egg but got it with minced chicken (without egg) twice before finally being offered the correct protein. The egg unfortunately was overcooked with the egg yolk not runny as it should be.
All in all, I believe the restaurant has become a victim of its own success. Probably they didn’t expect to be so popular and understaffed as a result. Hopefully this could be ironed out soon.
We will maybe visit some time later when their operation gets a...
