I had a lunch with my wife at this place two weeks ago. I have a habit that if I don't have enough confidence into a restaurant, I only order a few dishes to try first but not a proper meal size. This habit saved lots of time and money for me when I try new restaurants, including this one.
Both of us are Chinese crepe lovers, certainly we had one there. Apparently, Chinese crepe must be one of their fusion dishes, since besides the traditional crepe, they also have the one with cheese, duck, pork, etc. We shared one with cheese. The taste was Okay – the filling Youtiao was a bit hard instead of crunchy; the crepe itself was probably made only from strong wheat flour which tasted too chewy instead of al dente, mix with plain flour and bean flour would be much better.
The second dish we had was potato pickles which was the tastiest food among all the dishes we had there that day, but not because the pickle was amazing, the pickle was just regular pickle taste.
The third one we had was the Chinese hamburger – the burger supposed to be al dente, which was not but too dry, the filling was juicy enough but not with a rich taste as it should be. And there was not any green chili pepper in it at all – it’s not even an option! I understood that the traditional way to prepare this Chinese hamburger doesn’t include chili pepper although it’s very popular to have it included almost everywhere in China, but I thought this place is making fusion dishes, remember the cheese , cucumber and duck in the Chinese crepe??? What’s wrong with the green chili pepper now in the Chinese burger???
The fourth one which is the last one we had there, and it was my main reason to eat at that place – hand-pulled noodles. Now this sadly became the main reason I had to give this one-star review. I had beef noolde soup. The noodles were terrible. Hand-pulled noodles became famous and popular in China because of the unique taste – it’s very al dente, especially the noodles from Xi’an city, which is the same city as this restaurant claims where their cooking style sourced from. But the noodles were not al dente at all! There was either not enough salt or soda when the flour was mixed before making the noodles. That was very disappointed. I mean, fairly speaking, the soup and meat were both quite tasty in that bowl of noodles, but the noodles as the main part somehow slipped out of the whole attention back in the kitchen.
I won’t visit this place at least not in the next 6 months. It is my opinion that the restaurant needs some time to work on their flour mixture recipes for every flour dish they are serving if they seriously want to make a real achievement on what their name said “Xi’an delicious foods”. Otherwise, the name itself would be a joke, especially for people who...
Read moreThe food here is undeniably good, amazing. However, the service is .. controversial, at least horrible from most of my experiences. My friends and I went there multiple times and have consistently felt an unwelcoming atmosphere, as if the staff are annoyed by customers rather than willing to serve or help. There were 2 times, they got our orders wrong, and when we politely pointed it out, they reacted with frustration (or even anger) instead of resolving the issue. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, they insisted the order was correct and refused to communicate, making the situation unnecessarily unpleasant. In contrast, the staff at their other location near Central Station are significantly more friendly and professional, so my friends and I just decided to go to the other chain restaurant instead of this one when we are craving for their noodles.
Additionally, I have placed orders via Uber Eats from this location 3 times, and each time, my order was either severely delayed (and eventually cancelled by the restaurant after 1 - 2 hours of waiting) or ultimately cancelled automatically by Ubereats after 2 - 3 hours of waiting. I understand that peak hours can be overwhelming, but if you do not have the capacity to handle online orders, it would be nicer to disable delivery options during busy times or decline them promptly rather than leaving customers waiting for hours. Such experience was just frustrating and...
Read moreAbsolutely disappointed, in terms of authenticity only the texture of the hand pulled noodles is correct not the taste at all. For context, I lived for 18 years in China and Xi’An food was my favorite cuisine. My friend ordered the rice dish with beef and it was so disgusting she could only have one bite - it was ridiculously sour and I was appalled at the taste. The beef on my noodles was dry and cold, you can even tell in the picture. The 土豆丝 (potato string side dish) was small and disgustingly sweet I had to dump chili oil it to make it edible. The chili oil smelled delicious but was not spicy. I came for a taste of home and left genuinely nauseous after eating my noodles. The service was reminiscent of back home but did not do anything for the dish my friend only took one bite of so she could only eat the rice, and my heart breaks that they could serve such food and call it authentic. I know locals will keep coming here because the taste has been altered significantly for them, but do not think food in China tastes like this. Also I saw a couple order a Chinese hamburger 肉夹馍 and looked completely wrong. It is meant to have a very crispy flaky texture (non-negotiable) not a giant fluffy...
