At first, I wondered why a sandwich shop would be called ‘Zero Zero’. But after visiting and paying €30 for 3 sandwiches I know why: it’s how much is left in your bank account when you leave.
Let me be clear though: that’s not a bad thing. The bread is baked fresh, on site, and is exceptional. Tasty, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and firm enough to hold all the (many) ingredients in place throughout the eating process. It’s a masterful demonstration of bakecraft – and that’s before we even talk about the ingredients.
A sandwich is only ever as good as its bread, but it’s the ingredients that give it life. And Zero Zero seem to have a direct pipeline to the Tuscan countryside. I’ve had many an Italian sandwich. I’ve sampled the meats, cheeses, wines, and insults from the local drivers as you forget which side of the road you're meant to be on in their homeland, and Zero Zero’s ingredients are the real deal.

So this was my second day in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, I left my wallet with all my cards on the metro the very first day here. The following morning I went to Zero Zero, this was on my to do list in Amsterdam. As I had read so many good reviews about this place. I only had some cash on me. However after the lady at the counter took the order, she asked me to tap my card. But, I did not have one. And what happens next made my trip to Amsterdam, COMPLETE!!
The other gentleman comes and with a big smile says, don’t worry, the sandwich is on us. 🥺 he didn’t have to do it. Even though I refused, he insisted. My heart was so full receiving this gesture.
Coming to the sandwich - Oh boy!!! What was that? Phew 😮💨 😅 It’s literally the best gourmet sandwich I’ve had. The freshness of each ingredient hits you with every bite. This place is truly an hidden gem.
