I don't get how this place has good reviews, I swear they are fake.
There was a baby roach on our table near the end of our meal, disgusting.
The waiter also didn't really pay attention to us and took our order wrong despite us saying it very clearly. They brought out the wrong item and when we tried to correct it, instead of fixing it right away we had to ask two different waiters. The second waiter (who took our order originally) we asked didn't believe us and passive aggressively pulled out the menu to show us what he thought we ordered. I didn't get the point of why he did that.
Once they fixed our order I saw a server go around with the wrong plate of food we got to other customers asking if they wanted it for free! I'm not sure if it's different in Netherlands but in Canada if food is already given to a table you are not allowed to re-serve it to someone else for hygiene reasons. So gross!
The Margherita pizza was not a Margherita, it's just a cheese pizza. The speciale pizza with sausage and potatoes, the potatoes were undercooked. I did apperciate the pizza being so thin crust, but that's about the only good thing. The risotto tasted ok but had whole inedible sprigs of rosemary - you're supposed to take those out after cooking!
Avoid this place, just a shitty gross tourist area trap. We only picked this place because the restaurant we wanted to go...
Read moreunfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. The wait time for food was excessively long—over 60 minutes—which is unacceptable for any restaurant. When I raised a concern about this, the waiter responded mockingly, giving me a sarcastic “high five” when I raised my hand. This level of unprofessionalism is disappointing and made the experience even more frustrating.
The ambiance was also underwhelming, with tacky red and blue lighting that felt more like a nightclub than an Italian restaurant. It lacked any charm or warmth you’d expect from such a place.
To make matters worse, the wine was outrageously overpriced. We paid over £39 for a bottle that tasted like it should have been no more than £10. The menu overall is overpriced for the quality offered.
The food was the only saving grace, though it was nothing extraordinary. The main courses were standard, which, given the rest of the experience, felt like a win. However, the bruschetta was a disaster—what was served was not bruschetta but a small, overcooked pizza without cheese.
In short, Il Primo fails to deliver on multiple fronts—poor service, overpriced items, and a tacky atmosphere. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a quality dining experience...
Read moreI ordered a medium grilled entrecôte. Specifically asked whether there were vegetables with it. Also ordered a Chardonnay. The dish came with a red Entrecôte, barely any vegetables, when I mentioned this to the waiter, he rushed away to get it supplemented, it never arrived. The potatoes were very good, but again a minute amount. The Chardonnay was also quite nice, not exceptional, but when I was asked for another glass of wine I could not resist, given the nice weather. The second glass was also a white wine, but not a Chardonnay. Another disappointment. Kind this restaurant is in a street where a lot of pot was being smoked, if you do not like this fin a more quiet place. Though I was offered a free dessert as compensation I was so disappointed that I did not accept, I just wanted to leave. It really does not help if you get helped by 4 waiters in total. One of them did not speak Dutch and also her English was below par. I believe the restaurant does have potential, but I was just really unlucky. In a six course meal the dish would have been ok, but not without antipasta or...
