We visited Kruydt for the first time recently. The restaurant offers a choice of an a la carte menu or a surprise menu consisting of 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 courses. I asked for the 5-course surprise menu but asked if it could be without red meat (as I do not eat it) and three other products (which I am allergic to). I was told that this would not be an issue. My first and second courses were fish, all beautifully executed and a delight to eat. My third course was a piece of steak. I informed the waitress that I could not eat this as it was red meat. She proceeded to insist that it was not red meat. When I told her I thought it was beef she said it was veal and insisted that veal is not red meat. She did eventually relent but not before asking, in an accusatory tone of voice, whether I had specified that I do not eat red meat before ordering the menu. I never received an acknowledgement of error or apology, although the course was replaced with another fish dish. I would have expected a much higher standard of customer service for such a high-end establishment. Finally, my cheese platter was accompanied by fig bread and a puree which I was informed was date. I touched neither (my husband tried them instead). After taking away our clean plates, the waiter returned and informed us that the bread and puree contained fig (which I am allergic to). All was fine since I hadn't eaten it but could have ended much worse. The waiter did apologise for this.
I would note that we were in the restaurant a total of just over four hours which seemed excessively long for one person having four courses and one having five. I also found it unimaginative to have four fish courses whereas there could have been a mix of vegetable dishes to keep the food interesting. These could be areas of improvement.
I would like to commend the two young male waiters, who were consummate professionals and whose friendliness and explanations of the dishes made for a very enjoyable evening. They and the quality of the dishes are contributors to the four stars. We will return, but perhaps won't go for the...
Read moreVery high expectations of this place as it is quite pricey, but unfortunately a disappointing experience. The service was definitely not great, the ladies working did not try to create any atmosphere or sell anything from the menu or the drinks menu. We expected a wine pairing with the surprise menu, but this was never offered. Our glasses were empty most of the time and we had to ask the staff for another drink a couple of times. Empty plates were standing on the table for 10 minutes and the next course was served very quickly after clearing. For the wines we did drink, there was no explanation at all, which you would expect at a place like this.
The first course and desert were absolutely delicious. However, the second course was chicken and the third course was pork, it was really disappointing to have two white meats in a row. Not great pairing at all!
This place has amazing potential, but first of all the service needs drastic improvement, otherwise not worth going. Especially for the high prices you pay you would...
Read moreEvery visit to Kruydt is a pleasure. The food never disappoints consistently delicious, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. On a previous occasion, some of my friends noted that the service could have been a touch more attentive, as a few dishes arrived only after the wine had already been finished. However, this was a minor hiccup in an otherwise wonderful experience.
26-06-2025 Update: We returned, this time with my wife, and it was once again a fantastic evening. She thoroughly enjoyed the food, and we both appreciated the warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Kruydt remains my go-to recommendation for a special occasion. Whether you’re aiming to impress a guest or surprise a loved one, this is the place to be.
Pricing Note: It’s worth mentioning that dining here comes at a premium expect to spend around €100+ per person. However, for the quality, ambiance, and overall experience, it’s...
