Gember - lunch, cocktails, diner — Restaurant in Leiden

Seeing as the place advertises cocktails in their subtitle, we expected something special on that front. Sadly, when informing with the staff about the tastes of their cocktail-specials (which ones are the sweeter ones, the more sour, the more alcoholic, etc), the waitress pointed out the ingredients that were listed on the menu and told us the drink would taste 'like that'.

We then chose a few classics that were given Gember's own twist. We won't be back. For ten euros a drink, I expect more.

A Negroni with regular ice cubes thrown in is not done in my opinion, no matter the 'twist', which is mainly that it's made with rum instead of gin and Aperol instead of Campari. Way too many ice cubes, too, so we're left with relatively little actual drink. The citrus wasn't a beautiful cut of peel that's been subtly wiped on the rim, but a simple slice that's dunked in the drink.

The same goes for other cocktails. Simply not worth it; go to a place with actual love for the product and expertise in making a true...

We had a lovely time there last night. They opened only 4 months ago. So its just the 2 of them cooking and serving. A little patience doesnt hurt 😉 I just love the atmosphere, the decorations and the owners 🫶

I definitely recommand the Rib-Eye. It's simply one of the best I ever had. The tenderness of this meat, the seasoning 🤤 I'm definitely coming back just for it 😋

Mijn vriendin ging met haar vriendinnen uit eten omdat het een social deal was moest de rekening van te voren worden betaald. Zij vond het voorgerecht niet lekker en bestelde brood met de serveersters afgesproken dat het ipv het andere voor gerecht was en daar was de serveerster het mee eens. Heel vreemd dat zij als eerste haar voor gerecht kreeg en de andere nog niet. Na het voorgerecht moesten ze anderhalf uur wachten op het hoofdgerecht. Het excuus was dat men het niet verwachte dat het zo druk zou zijn en dat er maar 1 kok was. Nou vind ik dat een flauwekul opmerking, met die socialdeal weet je hoeveel mensen er komen en daar kan je bezetting mee regelen. Het ergste was dat mijn vriendin als nog dat voorgerecht moest afrekenen ondanks ze dat met de serveerster had afgesproken. Nou hebben we nu de grootste ruzie maar dit even terzijde. Dus nooit van te voren betalen want anderhalf uur wachten op je eten is abnormaal. 1 ding is zeker daar komen ze niet meer en ik ook niet meer. Wel leuk om dit op een verjaardag te delen dat we hier nooit meer naar toe te gaan. Beter naar pizzeria Guiseppe op de Herenstraat in Leiden heerlijk eten en dat...
