Last weekend we went to ROOS for lunch and a coffee. When entering the terrace waitress number one looks very annoyed and didn’t really help us to find the right spot. Then after moving tables, we found a good spot and we had to wait for quite a while to order. The coffee is good, that’s the one star is for (otherwise I would say zero stars), but the rest was disappointing. I ordered a salad and got it without the main ingredient. I decided to keep it, even though it was way less tasty, because I don’t like to waist food and I was with other people. During the lunch the waiters were standing in front of our table discussing what their plans are for the weekend. Very unprofessional! Then waiter number two came to our table to ask everything was fine. I told him I was missing the ingredient and he told me that it was because of the bad communication between the kitchen and the waiters. This was the moment he should offer us a free drink or a small cake. What normally happens if the staff is making a mistake like this. When we wanted to pay, I asked if they would reduce the price, since the food was missing the key ingredient. He told me he would reduce the price, we payed and then left the restaurant. When we were a few streets away from the place, we realised that he made us pay full price anyway! Conclusion: no complete meals and...
Read moreI am really disappointed with the service. We decided to try the cakes at Roos based on the reviews. Had one of the worst experiences of my life. After ordering a rat just ran passed by my friend’s leg. Do i need to mention our reaction? She went to let the staff know, and the lady replied: “it’s normal, it’s and old building”. I felt disrespected. We were having food there where rats are running around and being told it’s normal? Also the cakes that we got served weren’t covered—— in an environment with “pets”?
If you accept a friendly advice, this is not how you treat your customers. Maybe apologise for the inconvenience? How do you expect someone to enjoy their meal at a place like this? If you see your customers are not happy, have the courage to go talk to them instead of sending the (who I believe) trainee to clean up the mess? With an excuse that they are coming to deal with the issue tomorrow? I now somewhat regret not calling the authorities to deal with the problem.
Thank you ROOS for the pleasant experience, we definitely didn’t leave with a smile and we will definitely...
Read moreThe little town of Leiden is a really nice place! Just in the center of the town, right next to the Botemarkt you can find the ROOS. Here you can eat tasty soups, sandwiches and pastries. I went there to relax while walking around the city.
Fortunately we could get the last table. The place is small but the bright, atmospheric tent was jam-packed on this afternoon. I opt for brown bread with cheese, tuna, and tomatoes. This was really delicious! I also opt for the daily soup (spinach pesto in a tomato soup). The bowl is big and full. We also drink some tap local beer.
My slices of brown bread were really tasty. Fresh, richly invested with tuna tomato and a fresh mayonnaise.
ROOS is fun, tasty, light and beautiful. Much use is made of wood, culminating in the large, light wooden bar in the middle of the tent. The lunchroom is also nicely decorated with fresh flowers and funny, different chairs. The menu is not extensive and seems simple, but they even know how to make a 'normal' cheese sandwich really fun! The young staff is also...
