De Harmonie — Restaurant in Rotterdam

De Harmonie can be called as a modern restaurant but with less French accents than the expectations.

During the 5-course dinner experience, most of waitresses were attentive and knowledgeable. However, most of them gave me a feeling that they are knowledgeable from memorizing/reciting ingredients for course and wine menu - lack of sincere passion for culinary.

The highlight of my dinner experience is the presentation. From appetizers to desserts to mint candies, every dish was decorated creatively with colorful ingredients. The first appetizer - raw tuna wrapped in crunchy rice wrap sprinkled with matcha powder - was such an amazing opening. It is easily the best dish out of all courses.

The overall dining experience is without a doubt pleasant and enjoyable where we see creative and talented chefs bring different ingredients into one single dish. However, the taste is my biggest critiques towards the 5-course dinner. From my subjective experience, the chefs try to experiment on harmonizing different ingredients but it backfires the overall taste and texture (some ingredients bring very intrusive taste or texture that does not hold the synergy). Let’s start with the fact that 5 stars is not enough to rate this restaurant. For me, they deserve 10 times that. That being said, let’s start reviewing this pearl of rotterdam. I came to this restaurant for the celebration of my work’s christmas dinner. The restaurant is placed in an old authentic building close to Eendrachtsplein, which is in my opinion, the center of the most fancy restaurants in the city. De Harmonie has a very classy interior, everything falls perfectly in it’s place. The dining rooms are just magnificent. But, the food....., the food is just out of this world, every dish is so subtile and carefully made, all flavours come together in the mouth. You just wish that the plate never gets empty. I tried to eat everything as slow as possible. What a joy!!!!! I would specially recomend, everything. There was no favorite during my 3-ways dinner. The wines are also so special. I discovered my favorite white wine at this place: verdejo fermentado en barrica - rueda 2017- palacio de bornos. Such a well balanced wine. Our meal began with oysters, both plain and delicately garnished, which showcased the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The oxtail bouillon with ravioli and shiitake was deeply flavorful yet refined, demonstrating a careful balance of richness and clarity. The cod with risotto followed in the same spirit: precise execution, elegant presentation, and harmonious flavors. A glass of champagne and a Spanish red wine were excellent accompaniments, further enhancing the dining experience.

Service was attentive throughout—professional, warm, and highly responsive without ever being intrusive. The restaurant was fully booked during our visit, underscoring its popularity; reservations are strongly advised.
