Staff are a bunch of h*rny teenagers. Don't go here!
We ordered from the lunch menu. My menu included a beer, which wasn't brought to the table until I reminded the staff that they forgot something. The food was alright but the staff (a group of young people too busy courting each other and playing with their phones) didn't react to my obvious request to service us for several times. After ordering two glasses of water, we had to remind the staff once again that they forgot something. Instead of apologizing they chose to serve someone else first and let us wait a bit longer instead. It was not crowded in the restaurant and almost empty.
The check came and my beer, that was a part of the set was listed separately on the receipt. I got blamed for receiving a bigger beer and drinking it so they couldn't include it with the set (an additional fee was required). I told the waiter I asked for the set (the menu doesn't say anything about the size of the beer) and insisted on paying the set price and nothing else. I got told to pay better attention next time. As a result, I told this him to instruct his staff to be more aware of the needs of clients. When he walked away he cursed in the opposite direction, which was very obvious and extremely rude.
I am generally no demanding client but honestly speaking, I think that the young people at Sojubar can learn a bit more about caring for their profession and the customers they're dealing with instead of playing with their phones and relaxing in the kitchen. Being a Rotterdam local, I regularly visit different kinds of restaurants in the environment, but this behavior I have never encountered before. At some point the staff were even discussing g*nitalia (excuse me?) which is, to say the slightest, not very appropriate in a restaurant during working hours.
Good luck improving the service...
Read moreTldr: AWESOME fried chicken. Five Asians agreed that the super spicy one is REALLY spicy. Definitely-need-dairy, might-regret-it-later spicy. Proceed with caution. Edit 02/12: the soju flavour options are aplenty. Great as shots and in cocktails (soju yakult!). If you want the bingsu, it's quite a big portion so you can definitely share.
My friend and I love spicy food (we're both Asian with incredibly high spice tolerance) and considered ordering their super spicy fried chicken. The (Asian) waiter said it's really spicy, and referred us to other (also Asian) customers nearby who ordered the same menu, and they confirmed the spiciness. We decided to pass today and just ordered their spicy and sweet one, but the waiter kindly offered to put the super spicy sauce on one of the pieces.
With the arrogance of a born and raised Indonesian I went in and declared it not too bad. So we ordered the spicy sauce as a dip. The waiter looked concerned but delivered. (Shout out to this guy)
Ooo boy, it was a definite slow burn. It lured you in with an initial sweetness and a misplaced sense of smugness when you finished the first piece. One piece was nothing. YOU knew nothing. Before you knew it your friend started making pained noises and the burn toom over your throat as well and you thought about getting ice cream, but you're too full and everything was on fire.🔥🥵
PS: the sweet-spicy is good. I mistakenly thought the cheese one would be a cheese sauce, but it's just grated cheese, that one's just okay. Go for the saucy ones instead. Will definitely...
Read moreThe first time visiting the Soju bar was an amazing experience! My brother and I went there completely blind; we didn’t know what to expect, and we left surprised and very pleased. The food was really nice: I got the Veggie Magic Mushroom Kimbap (roll’d), which I have for the first time and I really liked; and my brother got the Spicy-Sweet Friend Chicken, with beer - the Chimaek deal, which he also loved, especially because of the Sweet-Chili sauce. The beer was fine, quite different from what we are used to, but worth the try (it’s Korean beer after all). We also tried the original soju. What I enjoyed the most was the Yakult Cocktail; so delicious and absolutely astonishing. Additionally, we had so much fun with the soju bomb! It’s a cool thing they offer, a different approach to a ‘casual’ beer and soju shot service, incorporating Korean culture. The second time I went, I got the yakult cocktail yet again, and with my friends we tried three other soju flavours, which we all loved! All in all, good traditional food, great drinks and excellent service, ensuring fun and...
