Upon being served our food, we noticed that the cutlery was missing—something typically expected given the size of the hamburgers. Here’s how the rest of the encounter unfolded:
We politely asked, 'Could we have some cutlery, please?'
The staff member replied, 'What? What do you need it for? You don't need cutlery for eating hamburgers,' in a tone that was both arrogant and condescending. 'I’ll give you forks for the fries, but that’s not how you eat hamburgers. Let me show you.'
He then approached our table with a smug smile, saying, 'Let me show you how to eat hamburgers,' in a manner that was both rude and aggressive.
At this point, I was stunned. I responded, 'Sorry, but we don’t need a lecture on how to eat burgers; we simply asked for some cutlery.'
He replied, now even more aggressively, 'I know. I was making a joke. It’s a sense of humor—not my problem if you got offended.'
Still shocked, I said, 'Well, I don’t get your sense of humor.'
He responded dismissively, 'Well, that’s what it is. I’m Irish, we make jokes. I’ve been living here for 2.5 years, and no one has ever asked for this.'
At this point, I couldn’t help but feel this was nothing short of a form of racism—belittling us, as if to say, 'You don't know how to do X, let me (white man) teach you.'
I said, 'This is really disrespectful. All we asked for was cutlery, and you’ve ruined our entire afternoon with your behavior. I’m sure your manager wouldn’t be pleased.'
To which he replied, 'I’m the manager.'
At that point, I was speechless. 🤯
I surely expect an apology from the owner of this place. Because this place used to be nice...
Read moreI went for the veggie classic and my friend for the bonanza. Also 2 cocktails and some drinks. The burgers were divine, the cocktails next level and the service was perfect. Can't recommend this place enough. Another visit another success. My friend ordered the steak and absolutely loved it. My classic veggie burger and sweet potato fries were on point as as well. The cocktails tasted great as well. Keep up the good work. Probably the best burger place in Rotterdam for both vegetarian and meat based burgers. The sauces are on point, the meat is good quality and the veggie patties are tasty. When served the buns are the perfect amount of crisp and soft. The burgers themselves are not too saucy which makes it a very nice experience for me. The veggies used are fresh and crisp. Overall I have enjoyed each experience of eating here and id highly recommend this place. For the quality and experience I feel the prices are fair. I've been here several times and the consistency of good quality and taste is phenomenal. The service offered is friendly and helpful but not the swiftest and the seating is fine but not the most comfortable. Keep up the good work and...
Read moreGood option for those exotic burger lovers in Rotterdam.
Location & Ambience: (4/5) The location is fantastic since it is on Witte de Wit, so it is super close to the station as well as multiple other food and hangout locations. The ambience well a little crowded for my liking. The tables are quite closely packed and can sometimes be a challenge to find a place. Do make a reservation as it can get quite full.
Food & Drink: (4/5) The food was quite good. We had some sweet potato fries and burgers. The burgers were both good, the meat was cooked well and the fillings were fresh and tasty. I do gather from the menu that this place has won a lot of awards for their burgers, so you cannot go wrong with the burgers here.
Summary: (4/5) This is a good option for burgers, but given the ambience the meal felt a lot more rushed than I would have liked. But if you don’t mind the crowd and the tight spaces. The burger options will certainly satisfy...
