After what happened, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. On Friday 21 July, I met with my friends at NRC at 7 PM, and we spent around 200 eur together. We ordered drinks from the bar and were looking for a place to sit and chat. I was walking from the bar with a drink in my hand, and suddenly, a man approached us and grabbed me by the hand, demanding that I take off my cap. I was honestly confused as he didn't introduce himself or provide any explanation. Since he was a stranger to me, I simply said "No." In response, he forcibly threw me out of the place, shouting: "You do what I said or you are out!" He didn't even allow me to take my bag with me, which I had left inside. He was not wearing any name badge or something that would help me understand who he is. Later, we discovered that there was a rule against wearing caps inside the venue after ten o'clock. However, these rules were only posted in Dutch and in a small font near the bouncers, making them hardly noticeable, especially when the bouncers obstructed the view. Moreover, no one mentioned this rule when we entered the place; otherwise, we might have chosen to go elsewhere from the beginning. The bouncer then falsely claimed that I had attempted to start a fight with him, which was why I was thrown out. We requested to review the security camera footage to prove that this accusation was untrue. My intention was simply to understand why I was being so rudely thrown away from the place where I'd been spending time and money from 7 pm without causing any trouble.
We asked to speak with the manager to file a complaint about the bouncer's behavior, but they refused. If the bouncer can simply decide not to call the manager, what is the point of the manager then?
We noticed other guys wearing caps inside as well, but for some reason, I was targeted that day. When my girlfriend mentioned to the bouncers that some people wear caps because of their medical conditions, they completely ignored her and suggested we find another place to go.
This experience was disrespectful, aggressive, and rude and was far from an inclusive environment. I find it hard to believe that such treatment is acceptable in a bar in the Netherlands. Guests should be treated with respect and dignity. This is an isolated incident, but if NRC is okay with such behavior (as they appeared to be), I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Let's collectively support more inclusive and friendly businesses rather than endorsing places like this...
Read moreNice big old building in a very well known bar area in Rotterdam. €5 to come in after 22h. We went for a drink and the bouncer at the entrance was awfully rude and unprofessional - when I didn’t know we had to pay to come in as it was my first time in the city. Music was good, it has different environments: a dance floor that gets busy after 1 am, the restaurant area and a little shoe-box mini club called Next downstairs, right next to the toilets. Service is appalling, with waiters taking forever to serve us -no queues, they were just chatting with each other, and very rude. Prices are expensive as expected but what it really shocked me fully was YOU HAVE TO PAY TO USE THEIR TOILET FACILITIES after 22h. You pay the entrance fee, the drinks AND TO GO TO THE TOILET? I’ve never seen anything like that! I personally need to use the toilet often for medical reasons and I found it incredible. I was livid. I tried to speak to the staff, and they told me that pay or leave. Great. XXI century and a place who serves drinks and foods CHARGES YOU to use their toilet facilities. On top of that you need to pay by cash. Who carries cash these days? Just to make it difficult, and of course the toilets weren’t cleaned! I was so angry, I left. It’s not about the money - its €0.50, but the principle! Avoid and go to...
Read moreThis place has so many flaws: Firstly the staff is not so nice and probably the worst bouncers they couldve picked, I was once grabbed by the back of my shirt for one of those just because I had a sweater wrapped around my waist, and apparently it's not allowed to go downstairs with it (you let people know, you down grab them by the shirt). There's a constant tension for absolutely no reason, when u are going in, out or downstairs, they are just simply rude and moronic. The place is easy to get in because is huge inside so usually no lines, but it also makes the atmosphere bad, the dancing areas are constantly roaming move of people going in and out. Downstairs, it's a shoebox with absolutely no ventilation. Toilets are paid, lockers are paid, and you cannot pin, which means that you have to take a line to trade coins in the bar. Honestly, 2 stars because Ive had fun there once or twice, but this is because i was in good company, music is not so bad too. it seems that they make everything to make ur night HARDER and not more fun. I rather go to the bar in front, which is more packed but with friendly staff and bouncers, or perhaps any...
