Service staff quality is OK, most are friendly but not active in service except one male staff. The environment looks like a drinking place, decoration is oke, but in the details it is done not really nice (how everything is placed) the cooking smoke is flying everywhere luckily the ceiling is high enough to fly away. When entered, a couple of staff pass us by but not helped us, we almost need to request for help to be able to get seated.
They serve you the side dishes, what most of the time comes when your food is served. Drink list is limited, I think they should have a more extend cocktail list to serve more.
The fried chicken is great the heat is nice, the crunch is really crunchy (i suppose double fried). Really great chicken, lovely, good amount of moist inside. Difficult due to both good crunch and moist.
We had the beef tartare, lovely because it was not ground but hand cut, pity that it did not bring anything due to softness of it, it melted away but not from the fatness. Also the pear does not bring any crunch to give better texture, what is lovely is the sweetness combination. What I miss in the dish is really the sourness, the crunch and even lost the raw egg yolk creaminess (this is mostly because pear have so much moist). They do add the pine nuts but was too little to make any different.
The calamari, It was really looking for it, because the extra things was more, and the calamari was cut so small. Pity the preparation was nice. The heat is there.
The beef is great, this is what Korean cuisine is known for, high-end beef. Wagyu came from Korea. I think we got like 8 slices around 200-300gr. Pity the side dishes that came with it, not more. The smoke that comes off is a lot, and there is not an extractor hood to get it away. So do not get fancy dress here or else you will need to go straight to dry cleaner. The beef is high quality, only there are still some sinews. Also what I do not like about the Korean BBQ grill plate is I cannot use the beef fat to grill the vegetables, such a waste. Also the plate does not sit stable on the fire stove.
The iberico pork cheek. this is I think the highlight of the whole meal. As soon as arrive at the table the fat is grilled off. dripping away. Luckily this is on another cooking plate, slightly in an angle, so it's flowing to one side and there is an opening flowing out of the pan. Pity there comes only with raw lettuces and no extra side vegetables. Also would nice to have a nice white rice bowl to combine the fat with, but too stuffed at the moment to do it. We also requested for more lettuce but second batch did not washed clean and there was alot of sand still on it, not a pleasant experience. It is 400gr of pork that you receive but would be nice if you get more side dishes with it compare to the price. The pork is really a must if I say.
Ginsu mango. Not cheap for shaved ice, it is not just ice that made from water we think they added milk and maybe to be more precise is coffee milk. i think they use half mango 1 scope of mango ice cream and mango syrup with finish an upside down cone. I thought first the toppings will not be enough but as we go the ice slowly melting and also the ice cream making it more dense and make it balanced.
Will not recommend a date night but more friends lovely catch up or familly.
7/10, could work more on price (drink price are OK, but water is expensive, paid same price as Amarone where we went for lunch). Do not for get, they are not in the center...
Read moreMan Nam used to be my go-to place for Korean food and I had always been a fan of the fried chicken here as it used to be the best Korean fried chicken in NL (in my opinion) until today. I always recommended it to my friend despite the relatively high price and not the best service. Today we went, all the way from Amsterdam, and we ordered fried chicken, beef bulgogi, Gochujang Sam Gyeop Sal, and kimchi pancake. The taste was certainly not up to standard (compared to my previous visits) so I informed the waitress. The bulgogi tasted about half-seasoned compared to normally, and the honey butter chicken (which is what I usually order) basically had no taste nor hint of honey. Just felt like it was glazed by pure butter. The waitress went back to the kitchen and said: the only solution I can offer you is extra sauce. I even asked her if the chef is new since everything tasted completely different from what I had in my previous visits. At the end we ordered Bingsu, got the wrong one, so they had to make it again, giving us less time and more pressure as the end of the shift was approaching. And eventually we got the bill, with €4 charged for the extra sauce that was supposed to be the ‘solution’. On the bill it says 5x, even though we were with 4 and technically didn’t order it. After a discussion with the waitress they took it out from the bill, which is ok. But she could have been more clear from the beginning that we actually had to pay for that extra sauce. Would have given a 1 star but today my friend asked if the Banchan (side dishes) can be refilled and they said yes, although we only got extra kimchi. So I’m giving another star for that. Because all these years I’ve been going since the opening, they have been telling me the Banchan couldn’t be refilled, which is very strange for a...
Read moreMannam is well known for their variety of Korean fried chicken and bingsus. These might be their staple dishes, but they have so much more to offer.
You’ll taste high-quality meat in their Yuk He Korean beef tartare and their Seoul Bulgogi served on table grill, it’s just that delicious. I also especially love the jalapeno mayo boneless chicken because the meat is so tender and coating so crisp, and its taste is so well-balanced. Whatever you order, you’ll taste high-quality ingredients and find their dishes flavorful and well-balanced. This is exactly why Mannam is my go-to restaurant for the best Korean food. Mannam serves halal chicken and offers vegetarian alternatives, so the dishes are available to and can be enjoyed by more people.
In terms of service, I find the owner very hospitable and caters to a great dining experience. Waitstaff is friendly, attentive and fast. Some speak Dutch, some Korean, but all speak English. I’ve visited the restaurant multiple times now and I really enjoy the laidback vibe. Mannam makes you feel welcome and is a great place to meet and catch up with friends and family, while enjoying and sharing great authentic Korean food.
Parking is available right in front of the restaurant. Plenty of space there. Which is a big plus when the restaurant is an hour drive away from where you live.
In my opinion you get great value for money, because of the high-quality dishes. Their portions are a good size. This especially goes for the bingsus. They’re huge.
I highly recommend a visit to Mannam. Go and taste their dishes yourself.
Sidenote: Be sure to make your reservation on time, because all the times I’ve been there the place was packed. I’ve seen people come at the door and leave disappointed because there were no more seats available. Don’t let it...
