Bar Restaurant Sijf — Restaurant in Rotterdam

I went to Café Sijf for some drinks and I would never go back again. The atmosphere really felt like they don’t want customers there.

The terrace was half empty, so we found a spot and sat down. Even though there were two male waiters outside (one blond and one with dark brown hair), neither of them acknowledged us or even greeted us. My partner actually had to ask one of them if they had the drink we wanted—he just nodded “yes” and didn’t even bother taking the order.

Thankfully, a friendly girl with curly hair eventually came and took our order. She was polite and professional, and the blonde girl who brought the drinks was nice as well. Inside, the guy at the bar who speaks English was also super friendly. Unfortunately, these positive interactions were completely overshadowed by the two male waiters outside, who had a nasty attitude and clearly didn’t care about serving customers. Honestly, their behavior came across as dismissive and maybe even discriminatory.

To top it off, when my partner went in to pay at the bar, the blond waiter was standing in front of the entrance with his hands on his hips, chatting with the other waiter. I tried to get inside as well, but he just stood there blocking the way, not moving or acknowledging me.

Overall, the experience was extremely unwelcoming and disrespectful. Unless management addresses the attitude of those two waiters, I wouldn’t recommend this...

The Sijf (Syf) is a great place to hang out and to enjoy the people passing by, since it is located in a nice little street, a pedestrian promenade in the old town of Rotterdam. It is a Bar and Restaurant and therefore it provides food ranging from sandwiches and toasts to bigger meals and coffees as well as desserts.

The staff is very friendly and willing to help and the whole establishment is built in an artsy decorated old town house with nice stucco and mosaic facade. Its location in the center of Rotterdam makes the Sijf a perfect place from which you can go to the upper part of Rotterdam’s center city as well as down to the old port, with its ships. It is located in the middle of both.

The Cappuccino I had was very delicious served with a shot of cream-topped liquor as a side and a cookie, and the Hot Chocolate is also super-delicious served with a cream-top as well. The prices of both as well as the other prices are reasonable.

Also the inside of the pub is great, since it features this nice old wood on two floors creating an elegant and stylish atmosphere to spend also a longer stretch of time in this establishment.

Editing my previous comment very below: We were there yesterday for having quick beers and fries as people do when they go places like that. They said they have a place for an hour which was fine for us. We waited for around 25 minutes to order beers and we went to the bar to give our order since they were standing there for a long while but not taking our order. When we ordered they were not comfortable with us ordering there like they care how we order. Our beers came but the fries we ordered took a while at least 20-25 minutes. So we were there for 45 minutes without the simplest order and we only had an hour as they said at the beginning. So we approached to a waiter to check the fries, he never checked. When we asked for the reciept they acted like not including the fries was their gesture. I don’t know what has changed in few months but they were rude. we are always nice, smiley and easy customers so i wanted to change my nice comment below.
