Bit overpriced and overhyped. Wine and beers are nice, there is choice and you can have great stuff even if you are on a budget. "House wine" made in France - weird concept if you ask me - was really good and all what we asked for. When it comes to food, it is clearly overpriced. Portions are quite small - okay I get the "sharing plates" concept is not about quantity but quality, but quality was missing on this Friday eve. 11.5€ fried cauliflower bits was good but hey it's basically cauliflower fries and no one spends that amount for fries. When we said to the waiter that the 21.5€ lamb shoulder was way too dry and overcooked, he apologized and answered that it was the first night of the new menu and that cooking "mistakes" were to be expected. From that he said it would be reported to the chef but as we were in front of the open kitchen we could see he never went to the chef. No offer was made to us and the dinner awkwardly ended with waiters avoiding us. Maybe I am a bit paranoid but it felt weird and we left the spot with a slight bitter taste, which is why I post a review today. This cozy local bar exceeded our expectations with its exceptional food. The shared plates were a delightful culinary journey, showcasing fresh, locally sourced ingredients in innovative yet simple dishes. The balance of flavors was impeccable, and the presentation was stunning.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a special occasion. The carefully curated selection of craft beers and spirits complemented the meal perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised by the dry, not-too-sweet taste of the natural orange wine we paired with our dinner.
The attentive and knowledgeable staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. If you're seeking delicious nouveau cuisine, a great atmosphere, and friendly service, this restaurant/bar is...
Read moreGreat place and people, too bad Kaapse is a far cry from what it used to be pre-covid. I remember ordering 330ml barrel aged stouts for 6-7 euro and having the time of my life as a beer enthusiast. Now it's all about beer served in "tasting" portions or 250ml anorexic glasses. Getting both inflation and shrinkflation treatments has made me avoid the place completely and prefer more honest breweries elsewhere. It is sad for me every time I come here as Kaapse was always my no.1 place to go, but now it just feels like a tourist trap. It was a good...
