A very cosy sushibar in The Hague city center with good food and friendly staff.
It is that cosy that you have the feeling of visiting somebody's home. It is not 100% tidy but that does add to the overall homey feeling. The place was full when I dined here on a Wednesday evening together with a friend of mine. That situation did mean that everyone was sitting very close to each other.
The people working at Kiraku are polite, friendly and focused on your every need. Not sure whether they are actually Japanese but that does not matter at all in my opinion.
The food was good, looked amazing and quickly served. I am not a food expert but I could taste the difference with those other commercial ("all you can eat") sushi restaurants. There is also much eye for details in the presentation of the various dishes including impressive cappuccino art.
From a pricing perspective, it is on the somewhat more expensive side. But again, it is not an average sushi place and is located in the city center.
Also, important to note that the restroom was clean and even equipped with one of those electric bidet cleaning toilets.
I will be visiting Kiraku again when I want to have good sushi in my own hometown.

Read moreKiraku is a small, cosy Japanese restaurant at the edge of the city centre. We sat at the bar and were served by a helpful and friendly wait staff of 3. The sashimi was lovely, the salmon especially soft and creamy and fresh. The sashimi cuts were good sized, and served atop fresh crunchy daikon. The tuna felt a little too lean for my liking. The tempura vegetables were fabulous, crunchy and delicate, served with a wonderful soy sauce that paired well with squeezed lime. The Tori age was similarly crunchy, did not taste oily, and the side salad - with an uplifting fresh flavour - paired perfectly with it. The edamame beans were served in a generous portion size. The plum wine on offer was lovely, and there were more than enough options for other drinks as well. The icecreams for dessert were delightful - Vanilla mochi and black sesame, served with fresh fruit - excellent. Highly...
Read moreUnfortunately, after years of serving good quality sushi and being one of my favorite sushi restaurants, yesterday was not a good experience. We ordered some nigiri and a dragon roll. The toro was chewy (probably not cut properly) The rice fell apart, and worst of all the Ama Ebi was not good, it was way too fishy that I had to spit it out in my napkin. The cherry on top is when they wanted to charge us €3,00 for tap water!! To me, when you charge for tap water in a restaurant, where I pay €7,50 per piece of nigiri looks really really bad, especially when we ordered drinks on the side. When we got home we got the most horrible stomach aches. I would not recommend this place anymore.
The woman that served us was friendly though!! She was attentive and kind. I could, however, see the embarrassment in her eyes when she had to tell us they started charging for tap...
