Pancakes (with extra butter) deserved a standing ovation. Reminded me of my first pancake.

I was 17, and it was a summer of firsts. My girlfriend and I had been dating for months, our relationship moving cautiously forward, like batter slowly spreading on a hot griddle. We had been inching closer to the inevitable, each touch and kiss feeling like the bubbles that form on the surface of a pancake—small moments of promise before the flip.

That fateful day started innocently enough. We’d planned a lazy afternoon together, fueled by the shared, silent understanding that today might finally be the day. She greeted me with a warm smile and a plate of homemade pancakes. I remember the stack clearly, the way the syrup oozed lazily over the edges, pooling at the base like the nervous energy pooling in my stomach. We ate in near silence, the occasional clink of forks breaking the tension. The pancakes were slightly uneven, the way homemade ones tend to be—imperfect but full of effort, much like the two of us.

Later, we retreated to her room, where the air was thick with teenage anticipation. The scent of those pancakes lingered faintly, a reminder of the morning’s calm before the storm of nerves. I remember fumbling like a chef who forgets to oil the pan—clumsy, unsure of the timing, but committed to seeing it through. My hands shook like I’d just spilled a cup of flour, scattering nerves everywhere.

The moment itself was not cinematic or graceful. It was like overcooking the first pancake of the batch: uneven, a little burnt at the edges, but undeniably real. Her laugh—soft and reassuring—was the drizzle of syrup that sweetened the awkwardness. It didn’t matter that we didn’t get it exactly right. Like pancakes, some things are just better homemade, with all their imperfections.

Afterward, as we lay there, I caught sight of the empty plate on her nightstand. A single smear of syrup remained, glinting in the sunlight like a quiet victory. It felt like a metaphor for the day—sticky, messy, but something we’d carry with us.

I recently had the pleasure of having lunch at Palmette in The Hague, and I must say it was a delightful experience. My husband I and our son sat outside in the sun and we were greeted with warm and friendly service. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal.

The menu at Palmette is a culinary delight. The dishes are expertly crafted with a fusion of flavors that truly tantalize the taste buds. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, and I found myself savoring every mouthful.

The presentation of the dishes was also exceptional. Each plate was a work of art, beautifully arranged and visually appealing. It was evident that great care was taken in both the preparation and presentation of the food.

In addition to the outstanding food, the staff at Palmette were attentive and knowledgeable. They were more than happy to provide recommendations and answer any questions we had. It was clear that they were passionate about their craft and dedicated to providing an exceptional dining experience.

Overall, my experience at Palmette in The Hague was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of delicious food, beautiful presentation, and attentive service made for a truly memorable evening. I highly recommend Palmette to anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience...

We visited this place for breakfast and had a wonderful experience. There’s plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and we were lucky to get a cozy corner table by the window. The space had a charming marble table surrounded by soft, colorful cushions, creating a warm and inviting nook — perfect for a relaxed morning.

We ordered a cappuccino, a yogurt bowl, avocado Benedict, and eggs Benedict. The cappuccino was smooth and well-balanced with a beautiful creamy foam. The yogurt bowl was fresh and rich, topped with seasonal fruits and crunchy granola. Both Benedict dishes were delicious; the eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise sauce was rich, silky, and that nice hint of lemon that added a fresh brightness to each bite.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home right away. Overall, the atmosphere was peaceful and calming — an ideal spot to enjoy a slow breakfast and start your day on a...
