Plus points - the desserts are incredible and I believe that the authentically italian dishes are fresh and flavoursome.
However as a coeliac, having seen this venue recommended as a gluten-free venue, I was less than impressed.
The first issue occurred when I asked the proprietor whether they knew what a coeliac was. Yes or No would have both been okay. However he said yes then when I asked what he understood it to be, he could not explain. This immediately undermined confidence.
The next big blow came with the first course of bruschetta. My gluten-free version arrived looking different to others, so far so good. However I asked how it had been roasted, wanting and needing to hear that cross-contamination risk had been managed well. Instead of receiving that assurance, the bruschetta was taken away without explanation or apology, and replaced.
Given the lack of a menu or enquiry about preferences, distinct from restrictions, I was also served a meat-containing pasta dish, and I am vegetarian, so declined it. The replacement pasta with tomato sauce was utterly bland.
I emphasise that I think there are fantastic meals to enjoy here. I have colleagues who have it as their favourite restaurant in The Hague. I advise caution for fellow...
Read moreThis is a family owned and operated restaurant in Den Haag that has a terrific combination of food, service and a very pleasant family atmosphere. After being greeted and seated the family will ask you two questions for your dining experience. Question #1) Red or White? Question #2) Meat or Fish? You can of course order from the wine list but otherwise the family will bring out an amazing array of food over three or four courses depending is you save room for dessert. The antipasti course will delight and amaze with its variety, the pasta course is a second treat with homemade pasta and fresh local components and finally the main course arrives depending on your selection of meat or fish. This will be a traditional Italian meal lasting between 3 and 4 hours so if you are on an American time line you will have to learn to relax and enjoy the food and resulting time for conversation.
Sapori is not inexpensive as a typical meal for 4 people with wine would be in the range of 300 to 350 Euros but I have never taken family or guests there when they did not rave about the experience. And yes we loved it! We would rate this restaurant equal to our best experiences in Florence, Rome, Naples or Positano in our travels across...
Read moreWent here for an anniversary dinner and it's a great place that I hope to return to!
We went for a the 3-course Chef surprise menu, where you get a large and tasty selection of antipasti, a very small but extremely tasty portion of pasta, and finally a big portion of a meat dish. Quality was amazing, flavours were perfectly Italian, and it was a very good experience where all the food was authentic and traditional.
I also enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant , where it feels decorated in almost old, Roman style. And the servers were also very friendly! I can't wait to...
