The warmth of the staff in Sarban Den Haag is special - a smile. We love this restaurant partly because of what it stands for as well as for the beautifully seasoned gently spiced and cooked authentic Afghan food. The waiters explain the dishes - the special dumplings, the spiced beetroot salad and the naan bread hanging from a stand which is based on a metal outline map of Afghanistan. The host referred to the pilau rice with lamb or not for vegetarians as "special food" and the rick and chick peas as "everyday food" and the side dishes are also varied - there was a soft chicken for the carnivores with aubergine dish for the vegetarians - we both had a beautiful spinach dish as well as a dhal. The sweet takes two small balls of ice creams from the menu as well as a cardamon milk pudding combined with some dried fruits. Everything is in perfect portions to sample. Thank you again. What it stands for is people who leave their home and bring their culture with them are remarkably resourceful and if you do not know the story of Sarban, then it is one to be treasured and to be pro people escaping from tragic circumstances and prospering in...
Read moreNot really a fan of being forced to buy 3 courses, even if I only want one. The service was just OK. The drinks menu came out quickly. The food menu took a lot longer to be delivered to the table. When it did, I found it a bit odd that the waiter sat down at our table to describe the "Surprise" option, and sat down at the table again to tell us about the two different types of ice cream. Thats a first for me. Despite being pretty empty when we arrived, the food took a long time to come out. It was pretty tasty, but some things that came to the table didnt seem to go with anything, like a salsa type side of chopped tomatoes with herbs. It was put on the table a bit ahead of the entres with no explanation. There was also a side of spinach that I didnt care for. I would consider going again, but its just more food than I...
Read moreWent here with 3 other friends. Ordered the sharing menu which included 3 starters and some Naan. A main course with 2x Kabuli pulao and 1x steam rice with chickpeas. It included a chicken dish, a meat ball dish, a lentil dish, spinach and a veggie dish. All to share. There was. Some salad as well. The dessert blew my mind. I have never had such a delicious pistachio ice cream. The dates ice cream was to die for. Would 100% come back here to just get the ice cream and Mantoe. The host was really kind and came to our table and explained each and every dish. Overall an excellent place and good value for the 40ish euros for the tasting menu. If you have a big appetite, maybe get an item extra...
