We stumbled upon this café more out of desperation when needing to use the washroom. It was also time for breakfast so we decided to check it out and see what offerings were available.
There is a rather varied menu but it appears to cater to breakfast/brunch enthusiasts rather than providing an all day menu. If my memory does not serve me wrong, there was a burger meal and fish and chips on offer if you are not keen on the breakfast options.
My search for the most impressive big breakfast in town continues so I chose to have the "Delight Special" - consisting of a sausage, 3 rashers of bacon, eggs your style (I chose scrambled), toasted Turkish bread, a hash brown, a grilled tomato, roasted vegetables and a side green salad. I ordered an Americano as I wanted to see what their offering of organic coffee beans was like.
First, the coffee. It had a slight bitter hint but otherwise, was pleasant and easy to drink. Nothing outstanding. Good so far.
The big breakfast came on a large plate and aesthetically and colours wise, it was impressive. Literally instagrammable.
Taste wise, I liked the sausage. Hearty and with just enough salt, it reminded me of a sausage off the barbie, which was fantastic. Scrambled eggs were a tad tough though and needed some extra salt. From the photos, you can tell that the chef is a fan of the "push" method rather than the "stir." Turkish bread was perfectly toasted with butter. Hash brown came out of a box but was nicely fried. The roasted veges (potato, pumpkin, and carrot) were nice but a bit odd on a breakfast platter and the side salad was forgettable.
But for 19 bucks, it made up for a good breakfast, but not great.
If I'm ever around the vicinity, this would be a place worth...
Read moreAn excellent little cafe under the ABB building, just walking distance from home. So enough to just turn on the washing machine and walk here to try it out. I love the ancient stone walls outside the racing club, in stark contrast to the high way traffic. At first, disappointed by the lack of paper to go with my latte, then delighted with spotting a yellow-body black-tailed heli to take off inside the club. Back to the cafe, the wall artworks are parts of a bike, perhaps, tour de France theme. Latte is pretty good, albeit not the best locally. What has really impressed me with the smashed avocado, is a touch of caramelized bread taste I have never got from elsewhere. The sourdoughis just of the right hardness and crispiness, coupled with the right running egg. Sure, will return. Better to hang my washing out...
Read moreWe were not fans of this cafe. The coffee was not bad though. I had the avocado and tomato toasted bagel. Hard to go wrong with this and I ordered it for this reason. I didn’t think the items in the cabinet looked very fresh so I ordered something not very complicated My partner ordered the Delight Special. It was not good. The hash brown was soggy, the sausage was a cheap pork sausage and not the advertised “Italian” sausage. The roast vegetables were just strange and not cooked through. There was maybe a spoonful of mushrooms which looked like they has been boiled. We will not return...
