Me and my husband went today to eat at Sahana. We were eating our food and the waitress came and gave us Medu Vada my husband kindly spoke to the waitress and said that there was no salt in the Medu Vada. She said that she would let the Chef know. As we were sitting not too far from the kitchen, we could hear everything being spoken. She mentioned to the chef that there was no salt and the Chef (Raju) said that if a customer wants salt in the Medu Vada then they have to ask but he said so in such a rude manner, he also spoke rudely to the staff member. My husband was so put off by the chef's rude attitude that he stopped eating. When my husband said to the waitress he didn't have to speak so rudely she said he speaks to them like that all the time. Another waitress came to bring food to my husband but he said no and she knew my husband didn't like how chef raju was acting and she went at the back to speak to him again he was very rude then my husband when to talk to him to ask his name. He refused but started getting very loud towards my husband and shouting. My husband spoke to him and said there was no salt but the chef was still having a rude attitude. My husband asked him again for name and chef raju started yelling my husband is threatening him and he is not giving him his name, my husband said its not threat he wants to know name for review. He still refused we went to pay and my husband asked waitress what was chef name they were still refusing to give name. They said we won't have to pay my husband said no we will pay but we want chef name they still were saying they cannot give name of chef i said we have a right so we can post feedback and after much time they gave us a name we paid and then left. The chef is a very rude person especially yelling and our 6month son is with us. We should be able to give friendly feedback to chef without him being...

This is a second or third disappointment at this facility. They still owe me a free dessert from my last experience of excess billing. Today too was disappointing. One lady running around to serve almost an 80% capacity restaurant while we waited for our table. Seriously?? We had a booking but left after waiting of 10 mins as the lone soldier looked out of sorts and control of her situation. Tables not cleaned, cleared tables not set up after being cleaned, guests waiting etc etc. This place has a niche market and the food is quite nice albeit pricey!! it's been around for a while. However, lack of vision or complacency seems to be creeping in. I'm not sure if they want to get their act together or not. I think the owner is from Singapore where the standards are pretty high compared to NZ I reckon. But sadly, she might have left her efficiency and professionalism back in Singapore. We went with the intention of having the buffet today. Having observed the state of affairs, we decided to leave since the replenishment of the buffet would've been left much to be desired and would have left us feeling even more frustrated. Now please do not blame this on the Covid situation. You guys have had enough and more time to re-group. You are charging fairly high prices. Give the paying public the service that they deserve. Please do not take them for...

So. As per previously stated I do not give 5 stars for good. To get 5 stars it has to be exceptional. I was here on Tuesday 18th July 2023 by myself for a meal at about 1730hrs - 1800hrs I arrived. Quaint little place and the lady that greeted me was most pleasant. I ordered the Kahmiri Lamb Rogen Josh (medium heat) , a bowl of rice and the Goat cheese Naan. While waiting to be served a gentleman who I assume yo be the owner/manager came out and gave me a complimentary disk of Vazhai Poo Vadai which is made from banana flower. I have attached pictures (not mine). They had a beautiful flavour and dipped in a curd were just fantastic.

Whe main I ordered came out and I have to say , I have tried Lamb Rogan Josh in Indian Restaurants from one end of this country to the other (see previous reviews), but this, hands down, was the nicest. The level of heat was excellent, the amount of diced Lamb was very good and the flavors were the best I have tried. The goats cheese Naan I have never had anywhere else was just to kill for. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ is most certainly deserved. If it wasn't for the fact I was visiting Auckland from Invercargill , then I would certainly be back here on a fairly frequent basis. Well done and thank you for a meal I...

We are regulars at Sahana for their weekend brunch buffet. The ambience, setting and soothing background instrumental music creates a enjoyable dining experience. The place is always neat and tidy. My food experience today was no different from the one I've had on any other visit, in one word - sublime. They make the best vadaa and poori bhaji I've had in Auckland, just terrific. The sambar and chutneys are great complements to the lovely food and provide that added flavour/zing. The dosa was also a great offering. The piping hot coffee served in a traditional copper tumbler and cup is a fine touch and the payasam certainly deserves a special mention. It always satiates our craving for authentic South Indian food that we so dearly miss! My overall experience in Sahana is worthy of a 5-star rating without having to think about it. We keep going back for the lip-smacking food and the smiling faces of the restaurant staff, specifically Sasi and Gautham, their service is incomparable and one of the best we've received in Auckland, steeped in the strong foundations of a terrific food service offering - tasty food combined with outstanding service. Well done guys, keep it up!

I have visited Sahana Restaurant a few times, but my last experience was extremely disappointing. Despite there being fewer than four occupied tables, the staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. It took them 20 minutes to serve idlis at a South Indian restaurant, which was unexpected. The chicken lollipops were poorly prepared, with a thick fritter-like coating that looked unappetizing. When we requested extra sambhar for our three idlis, we were told we would have to pay extra, which felt unreasonable. The manager was not only rude but also visibly exhausted, likely due to the lack of staff. One person was juggling Uber orders over the phone while also serving customers in the restaurant, which only added to the chaos. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. The food quality was far below what I had enjoyed on previous visits, and the service left much to be desired.
