Popeyes Famous Louisiana Chicken Papatoetoe — Restaurant in Ōtara-Papatoetoe

I was left wondering about my life choices after getting dinner from here on a Thursday evening.

Life slowly drift by while I sat in the drive thru. It was a warm and breezy spring evening but the pain grew as the line creeped slowly forwarded. I glimpsed the speaker box after 10 minutes or so only to be deflated by confused looking drivers who still waited until the last minute to decide their orders. It was 6.30 though and maybe they had nodded off while waiting. Hopefully Popeyes open the other lane soon, but the concrete base of the barrier sticks points to a different conclusion.

Life sped up and after 20 mintues or so I finally got to clutch my precious package.

My food was still warm when I got to the safety of home about 20 minutes later. Of the classic burger, 2 pieces of chicken, fries and gravy, the gravy was probably the tastiest although it had a gloopy consistency which reminded me of the old pots of glue from primary school. The gravy had some very fine pieces of meat and what looked like green beans, which I hoped wasn’t leftovers from KFC.

The chips were crunchy and had a nice spice on them but it wasn’t enough to make up for the chicken….

Those poor birds. To be desecrated like this is incomprehensible. We claim to live in a civilised world and yet we let people, multinational corporations, like Popeyes get away with this is obscene act… it’s disgusting.

It started off well. Chicken was warm. Really crunchy batter on both the burger piece and the 2 side pieces of chicken. Meat was juicy and tender. But bite after bite revealed the horror; the most heinous of all crimes… after a long day at work it nearly broke me. For you see, dear reader, the chicken was…..

Tasteless 😱😱😱

I know. I know. I’ve already booked in for counselling but I’m not sure it will be enough. I just don’t know how I can overcome this ordeal. Was I wrong to get mild chicken I hear you ask. Nay nay I say. The Colonel never lets me down when I get the original recipe. So no. I lay the blame, the guilt of this most heinous crime solely at the feet of the tasteless multinational corporation that is Popeyes.

So please, dear reader, let my experience be a warning to you. Don’t stop here. You deserve better than mediocre chicken.

It didn’t take long after the speaker...

Tried this fastfood chain for the first time today, I was not impressed one bit. We ordered Mac n Cheese, Chicken sandwich and a Biscoff shake.

They had 2 lanes in the drive through, both were occupied when I arrived, so I drove behind a guy in the right lane, the guy In the left lane had completed his order and proceeded to the window. There was no one else behind him so I reversed out of my lane to go into the other lane. The guy that was infront of me should've been served first as he was trying to get there attention but the operator spoke to me first.

The lady informed us after ordering and while we were at the window that there was no biscoff crumbs lefts and replaced it with an Oreo shake instead, but she said to drive to the 2nd window.

We drove to the second window and you couldn't see in, which meant I didn't know if they were actually making my shake or not. After 5minutes I knocked on the window, and the lady apologized and said they're making it. She should've given me an update beforehand.

We tried the Mac and Cheese which was real plain, lacked amount of cheese sauce and was semi-hard.

Chicken sandwich was nothing more than just chicken and acouple slices of cucumber with sauce inside buns, it was really bad and I could've made something better at home.

The Oreo shake was just like any other.

Don't waste your time buying any of...

Overall: Good tasty food, will breakdown what we got and our thoughts on the new chicken place in town! I wouldn't order any of the sides on their own but are worth it when it comes to being in a combo.

Fries: Tastes like it needs a lil salt but crisp. Biscuit: Plain (as expected) but not as dry and soft Mash with gravy: Tastes the same as packet gravy and potato was more goopy then expected. Mac n Cheese: I had low expectations and those where meet. Needs more flavor and pasta was semi hard. Spicy wings: You notice the kick after a few bites rather then immediately - more spicy rather then flavorful. Tenders: As a tender lover I liked the size and crunch they where moist all the way through too. Burger (Deluxe): Bun was nice chicken decent size but the flavors don't work together, you taste them all separately. Pickle is horrendous. Sundae: This is literally just ice cream and sauce.(lame)

Main event-The fried chicken pieces: The chicken was all a decent size, crispy and cooked well. Was surprised at the size (Got 6 pieces and didn't see a drumstick/wing) and moist all way through. I had this with my partner and he noticed a slight flavor difference but as someone who is sensitive to meat I could both smell and taste the beef tallow difference. The coating was super crunchy but does feel like it's missing a little umph...
