Went here for mother’s day and unfortunately had a tough experience. It took nearly 2 hours for our food to arrive to our table. A family had already walked out complaining about having to wait too long, in which we should’ve done — yet the staff reassured us consistently that the food was coming. They apologised and claimed it was an issue with the system, that the system was prioritising newer orders over older ones and therefore the chefs were making the newer orders instead.
I get this and I do feel sorry for them on this part. But arguably something like this is not entirely out of their control. In situations like this, surely there should be another alternative, a plan B, to make sure things run smoothly. Relying solely on one system is risky as it does not account for issues like this. What is their solution or backup plan for when food is taking too long or the system is not working? They don’t have one. I argue that although the system problem is not their fault, their response and their ability to solve the issue lies entirely on them. They could be doing much better in this field.
Further, although the wait staff are friendly and accommodating, they lack initiative. We had to ask several times for water refills and had to ask for utensils when our food came. These are minor things, but shouldn’t need asking from the customers. Also, once the food finally did arrive, it was bland and dry.
I regret to give this review because they are nice people and are trying their best. But ultimately quality is very important and I think much more could be done in ensuring the efficiency of their cafe system and procedures. In general they need to improve their quality -- food, service and...
Read moreI recently visited and while there were some standout dishes, others fell a bit short. Let’s start with the positive, the croissants are absolutely divine! Flaky, buttery, and baked to golden perfection, they were easily the highlight of my meal. If you come here, you have to try them—they’re worth the visit alone. Now, onto the “chicken liver pâté” Unfortunately, it wasn’t as smooth as I’d hoped—the texture was a bit lumpy, which made it less enjoyable. Additionally, the whisky flavor was way too strong, especially for a morning meal. It felt overwhelming and lingered in my mouth long after I finished eating. Maybe this dish would work better as an evening appetizer with a toned-down whisky presence. The café itself has a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the service was friendly and attentive. I appreciate the rustic charm and the effort put into the menu, but some dishes could use a little refinement. I’d definitely return for the croissants and maybe try other pastries or breakfast options. However, I’d probably skip the chicken liver unless they adjust the texture and whisky intensity. If you’re in the area and craving something buttery and delicious, Jono Village Eatery is worth a stop—just...
Read moreThis is s little gem in the Mount Eden village... The service is great, the food is tasty. However, the recent visit has a little disappointment with the burger where it is not as good as how it used to be.
We used to like their burger soo much that I would not mind to drive 30 mins cross town to just have their burger. Recently, they have changed their burger from the pretzel bun to normal burger bun and I have to say it's different and not as good as how it used to be. The pretzel bun just gives the burger a bit of edge that every other burgers out there. Now, it's just a nice burger, like all other burgers shops, and makes me, and all my friends, less likely to drive cross town for their burger.
To me, as a small business owner, I understand that cost management is critical to survive. However, I think that they should still offer options, even it means that customers need to pay couple of dollar to upgrade their burger to have a better dining experience...
Please bringing back the pretzel bun... It's way... better than what...
