Sri Mahkota in Browns Bay isn't just a restaurant, it's a beachfront oasis. This haven serves a captivating fusion of Chinese and Malaysian flavours, and we embarked on a nine-course exploration. Our journey began with a textural delight ā coconut Nestum Fried Prawns. These crustaceans, cloaked in a golden, crunchy nestum batter, were a symphony of sweet and savory notes that danced on the tongue. Sharing the spotlight were the Stew Pork Trotters, melt-in-your-mouth tender and steeped in rich, savory braising magic. The remaining dishes were a supporting orchestra, each adding its own unique melody to the experience. The Four Seasons, presented a medley of contrasting textures of roast pork, roast duck, pig's ears, and char siew ā a delightful exploration of textures and flavours. The vibrant Yee Sang, a raw fish salad, offered a refreshing counterpoint, while the Steamed Blue Cod was the picture of delicate perfection. Stir-fried Kai Lan added an earthy counterpoint, and the comforting foundation of Fried Rice provided a familiar backdrop. Steamed Scallops, simply prepared to allow their natural sweetness to sing, completed the savory ensemble. The Hainanese Boiled Chicken, a comforting staple, was a perfect foil for the bolder flavours, its silky texture and clean taste a testament to the chef's touch. Sri Mahkota's beachfront setting elevates the entire experience. The food, a symphony of textures and tastes, is more than commendable; it's a delicious escape. Here, you can linger over good food and company with the sound of the waves as your soundtrack, creating memories that taste as good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a really traumatic experience in this Malaysian restaurant. In fact, this incident happened to me last year and I just recalled it so here I am writing a review for this horrific incident. Firstly, I want to advise those āMalaysian auntiesā working in the restaurant to serve customer with proper manner and attitude. This is New Zealand š³šæ, not Malaysia, please do not bring the attitude there to this country. If you want to speak to your customers, talk politely in a respectful manner, donāt treat us like a 5 year-old child, WE DO NOT OWE YOU ANYTHING. Furthermore, no matter how young the customer step into your restaurant is, you should treat him in a manner of how you treat everyone else. Just because someone is young doesnāt equate that you can talk and treat him like your own children. Most importantly, I have to say that the food here was diabolical. I ordered a āFish Head Beehoonā, it was disastrous and the soup looked exactly like sewage water or in Malaysia they call it ā air longkangā, I lost my appetite just by looking at it. The food had weird taste and it was the WORST Malaysian restaurant I have ever been to in my life. Please donāt even call your restaurant as āMalaysianā since it looks like you are stigmatizing the reputation of Malaysian cuisine by putting up such a label for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent here for lunch with a group of friends; we ordered ahead to save some on a tight schedule.
We were not greeted when we arrived and just guessed (correctly) our table. The service was very unfriendly and as each dish arrived they staff didn't say what it was so we had to ask / work out who had ordered what.
I had ordered Beef Randang - I always measure a Malaysian restaurant by how good their Beef Randang is. It was dry as a bone and themeat was tough as leather. the sauce was without any taste. It was like eating old dry boots. Quite literally the very worst Beef Randang I have every eaten.
There were no prices on the online menu; but I expected a reasonable price of around $20 (even though it was terrible) I was shocked to be asked to pay $28 for the lunch (inc Roti and rice).
I told the serving staff of my dissatisfaction and they just said "thank you" so I had to repeat that I wasn't satisfied and they just ignored me.
I will not return to this restaurant. It had the ambiance (and smell) of an old fish and offered extortion instead of edible...
