Unfortunately a pretty bad experience. Ordered takeaways in the store at 6.40pm and was told the wait was 1 hour. I agreed, then placed our order (6 mains/6 entrees), and was told to come back at 8pm (which is fair enough). We arrived at 8pm to pick up our food and had to wait until 8.50pm for our order to be ready. No communication or apology for the wait. The staff were pretty relaxed about the whole situation. Arrived back at our accommodation 7 minutes later to discover that all except 1 dish was luke warm. Pretty sure most of the order had been sitting in the kitchen for at least half an hour to get to that temperature while in sealed containers. The Fried Chicken entree was second grade chicken nibbles that had been deep fried for so long it was dry and tasteless. The mozzarella sticks were so cold they were solid (like the Bega Cheese String Sticks) and there was no hint of Wasabi in the prawns. Whilst cold, the chicken satay had a nice flavour, as did the Drunken Stirfry, Beef Pad Thai and Penang Noodles. All other dishes were a complete disappointment. The Chicken Cashew was like deep fried pieces of battered chicken with no sauce or flavour, a few slices of carrot and about 10 cashew nuts thrown on top. When you are spending over $200 and waiting for 2 hours, you expect to at least enjoy the meal, which we did not. I would avoid this place at all costs unless you are prepared to be...
Read moreI feel obliged to leave my first ever restaurant review based on tonight's experience with Sukhothai. Ordered a takeaway via their website with an estimated wait time of 1 hour on a reasonably busy Friday night. Arrived on time for pick up but was told it was not quite ready and waited an additional 20 mins for the order to be brought out. No problems here. Upon our hungry arrival back at our hotel what we were greeted with was probably the worst takeaway food I have encountered in my 35 years on this planet. The Chicken Larb I ordered (which as stated on their menu is supposed to be made with minced chicken) consisted of a couple of whole thigh pieces of chicken (which tasted off), a sliced red onion and little else, unfortunately it was inedible. I would have expected a $30 Thai salad would have a least come with a portion of rice I could have enjoyed instead of the Larb, but not at Sukhothai. My Partner ordered the Panang Vegetable Curry, which for $28 also does not come with rice. Whilst this dish was edible it unfortunately was the worst Panang Curry I have tried, with little flavor to get excited about. I am disappointed that I feel obliged to write my first google review regarding this restaurant but let this serve as a warning to the reader. Additional there is clearly a great opportunity for a quality Thai restaurant in the Timaru market if Sukhothai is the main...
Read moreMade reservations and went there to celebrate our sons birthday. Unfortunately it was an unpleasant experience. We will not return there again. Here are the reasons why. The service was extremely slow. There was four for dinner and after a platter which was well presented and value for money the wheels fell off the dining experience. After waiting what seemed to be forever we asked when we could expect our meals as others who came in after us were well into their mains. We were told it was coming. Three meals arrived and we waited for the fourth eventually we started and the fourth had to ask when that meal would arrive. One of group found hair in her meal and called the waitress and pointed out the problem. We called it quits as the staff seemed to be amused about this. Went to pay the bill and was invoiced the full amount including the meal with hair. I said that I did not want to pay for this meal as it was returned to the kitchen and not offered to be replaced. They agreed to deduct the meal in question and asked for payment. A quick look at the amount and found it to be incorrect, and a calculator was used to get it correct. These are the reasons we will...
