Pepper Bridge Indian Resturant — Restaurant in Christchurch

Probably caught them on a bad day based on the other reviews, but didn’t have a great experience here. Meals were pretty average & lacking in flavour, came out Luke warm which within a few minutes became stone cold (probably just microwaved). On the menu it said my paneer would be fried in spices, but it wasn’t fried and was completely flavourless. Rest of the meal wasn’t terrible, just pretty average. The vege pakora was good!! Went to pay and it was a lot more than I’d anticipated. Asked for an itemised receipt and after checking this out realised the prices on there were higher than we’d seen on the menu. Went back in and looked at the menu to discover the prices were all higher on my receipt. When I asked the guy about this, he said that the prices had to go up because of costs increasing. When I reminded him that legally they couldn’t falsely advertise prices on menus he said he forgot to tell us. Didn’t look like he was planning on refunding us. When we asked for a refund he made some excuses about how he didn’t work there often. It wasn’t until I started taking photos of the menu vs my receipt to warn people that he gave us the excess money back, all in 50 cent coins. I went to this restaurant with my partner about 6 months ago and at the time I would have rated the experience 5 stars. I eat Indian food at least 1-2 times a week and often cook Indian at home myself having been taught the basics from Indian friends. My visit today was highly disappointing. I ordered Lamb Padam Pasanda and beef Madras.When I arrived to pick up my meal, Instead of wonderful Indian music there was Gangster Rap music playing. Both curries should be vastly different but I couldn't see a hint of Red in the Madras. It seemed like the same sauce was used with both dishes with a few tweaks used on the Madras to make it appear different. My Uber Eats order arrived way later than estimated. When I checked with the driver, he told me the food had been ready for a while, but the staff deliberately made him wait - walking around, pretending to be busy, and refusing to hand over the order for nearly 20 minutes after he arrived. This kind of pointless, disrespectful behavior not only wasted my time but made me seriously wonder if the staff was discriminating against the driver.

As a paying customer, I find this completely unacceptable. If a business can't even show basic respect and efficiency - let alone might be tolerating discriminatory behavior - they don't deserve anyone's patronage.
