I recently (June 2022) visited for lunch and had terrible service. Our table was booked for 5 people 3 days before the booking. 2 People ordered high tea which is a pre made item so it was ready for the day. The booking was at 2pm, I arrived a couple minutes early and was asked to sit while they prepared our table. When the table was ready we sat down and the server brought out the high tea so I asked for the lunch menu so I could order. It was at this point I was informed they they had a large party of 55 people in the other room so they had closed the kitchen early at 2pm. As per the website at the time of writing this they take their last lunch booking at 2:30pm so I should have been able to order. Terrible service, had I been told when I arrived before 2pm that they were closing the kitchen I would have made my order when I arrived. Or they could have done the decent thing and kept the kitchen open for their booked diners after all whats the point in taking the booking if you don't want to make food for people. I'm guessing this party of 55 was also booked before our booking was made so we should have been informed at the time of booking that the kitchen would be closing early for the party in the other room which would have influenced my decision to go. 2 People who were booked for couldn't make it which is probably good because I don't know what they expected to feed 3 people.I ended up having a brownie from the cabinet, not exactly what I was expecting to have for lunch at a...
Read moreWe recently visited Riccarton House for lunch and have to say the service was awful. We alerted a staff member that we had arrived for our booked table. The table had no umbrella on a very hot day and only one chair. We managed to get our own chairs from another table which was fully laden with dirty plates etc. We were given menus. Then, waited at least half an hour before deciding we would go to find someone to take our order. The staff on the coffee counter were having a conversation, so I waited and waited, in the end having to interrupt them to find out how I can get someone to take our order. The young man didn't know, so asked a passing waitress if she did table service. She said she would get someone. After a further wait we ordered drinks and meals. After a further 30 minutes we received meals, no cutlery, no water, no drinks. We had to go to the coffee counter to get our own water and remind the staff about our drinks. Overall, very disappointed in the whole experience. The only waitress that appeared to be working was a slim dark haired girl. She was working hard inside...
Read moreI recently booked at The Quarters for my birthday taking seven of my friends. I did mention it was my birthday when booking so was very happy when we sat down at a table with beautiful flowers and a card with my name on it. Then menu was perfect, not too many choices to cause confusion. I had the pork and apple pie which was delicious even to the point of wanting to take two home . A glass of champagne was complimentary, lucky birthday girl. We had an Affogto for dessert but I will say the desserts looked wonderful and will have one of these another time. The Quarters is a superb restaurant, food delicious and their attention to detail excellent. This restaurant is situated in the beautiful old historic home Riccarton House which has ample car parking. I will return with friends again very soon. I totally...
