Yummy Chinese Cuisine — Restaurant in Christchurch

18/11/2018 - There is a Malaysian 🇲🇾 food outlet shop inside this Church Corner mall. This shop has been here for over 20 years now and this business is still owned by the same owner. It is the favorite eatery for both Asians and non Asians as the [food] taste suits both groups.

We ordered 7 different types of dishes; stir fried Chinese vegetables, stir fried [diced] egg plant, ginger venison on hot plate, braised [pork 🐖] spare ribs, spicy [sambal] squids, sweet & sour pork 🐷, and stir fried diced chicken 🐔 with vegetables. All the dishes have different tastes and you won't be disappointed.

The dishes that I enjoyed most are: stir fried [diced] egg plant, ginger venison on hot plate, braised [pork 🐖] spare ribs, spicy [sambal] squids, and sweet & sour pork 🐷. The other two ✌ dishes tasted average.

Plenty of on site parking 🅿 if you go there after 7:30pm 🕢. Anything earlier than 7.30pm, it will be hard to find a car 🚙 park.

They accept cash and have an EFTPOS machine (debit and credit card payments and there is no Paywave available), for those who want to know.

If you're a delivery driver or rely on any kind of logistics efficiency, steer well clear of this operation. I arrived for a routine pickup and was met with total chaos. Four different staff gave me four conflicting answers, and not a single one could take ownership or solve the issue. It’s clear there’s no training, no leadership, and absolutely no respect for people’s time.

I wasted over 20 minutes standing around because they couldn’t organize something as basic as a pickup. This isn’t a one-off mistake — it’s a sign of a broken, disorganized system. Businesses like this cost others time, money, and trust.

The chicken and sweetcorn soup was small for the price and not great. For my main course I ordered Chicken with Lemongrass and I have to say that every bite was flavourful. The chicken was well marinated and helped keep it moist. My partner ordered Diced Chicken with green curry and it lived up to the restaurant’s name “YUMMY”. It had the right amount of spice with fresh vegetables, The dishes felt overpriced for us but was scrumptious.

The waitress attending us was delightful and understanding. When I mention that I have shellfish allergy even though I was ordering chicken, an older man who worked in the background (might have been the owner or manager) came out and was quite rude asking why I had to mention that at all. He was also very harsh on their staff in the forefront of customers yelling and telling them off.
