I was here with my Mother on Anniversary Weekend. It was fairly busy. My mother has a walker and is 81. She isnt able to walk very far and I asked if we could sit in a comfortable seat in the conservatory, to which the reply was, "no sorry that's reserved". Clearly my mother was having trouble standing and there was no alternative offered. So we were left to find our own seats. I approached the closest table I could get to which was in a doorway with uncomfortable wooden seats, the waitress who was passing said, do you want to sit here? I said yes, then she promptly moved the seat away my mother was about to sit in, then she left. I pulled the seat back in and mum sat down. it was in a walkway and very noisy so we decided to find ourselves another seat. It was extremely difficult trying to get my mum settled - clearly the wrong choice of venue on my part for an elderly person, and I accept that. But no one really gave us any attention. I was left to get my own jug of water and leave my mum on her own, she has dementia so that wasn't ideal. I got her some cabinet food which was quite nice and I ordered a pizza. It was cheese and pineapple, and to be honest, probably the worst looking pizza ive seen for 20 bucks. it had supermarket shaved ham thrown at it, more on one side than the other, and the pineapple was tinned, whole rings (not even cut up) also thrown on and not spread evenly. The base was not cooked. Pineapples are super cheap at the moment and for $20 i think you could expect fresh pineapple and maybe a step up from supermarket shaved ham. it was diabolical to be honest. I think one of my children could have done a better job. I know that sounds harsh but really? The whole experience was extremely stressful and not enjoyable at all. The saving grace was when we left, a young waitress could see that we were struggling to get through the tables to leave, and she picked a table up and moved it out of the way so that my mum could get past. I don't think I will be going back. Sorry for the bad review but it was just so unacceptable for the price. I probably wouldn't have written this if I was there on my own and the pizza was $10 which is all it was worth. I think just as a note to everyone in the hospitality industry, old people are customers too and deserve respect and extra care. Sometimes its not until you are in the position of having to think where to take an aged person for a pleasant outing that you really see the pitfalls in our eateries. This place is certainly not wheelchair or walker friendly, avoid taking your elderly...

Bodrum Kitchen is one of the best cafes in Auckland, and my safety cafe if ever I need to quench my need for the sweet golden nectar that is yolk extruding out of a exquisitely poached egg. It's Turkish influence is subtle and allows Bodrum to be distinctive in its approach to delivering exactly what is needed even if you didn't know what that was. Its sister in Titirangi, Deco is exactly the same.
Little siblings are always a pain, and it's even worse when they best you at what you are best at. Unfortunately for Bodrum and Deco, their little sibling, Devon on the Wharf simply blows them out of the water, literally. It's perhaps the most beautiful location to eat a meal or sip an emphatic espresso on.
Poised right at the Devonport Ferry terminal this exquisite arena of food brings forth the impossible to beat sound of waves crashing and the natural light bouncing off every inch of a wonderfully decorated restaurant. It's simply a nice place to be, if not the nicest.
I ordered a Salmon eggs benny that was served on a thin potato rosti cake with a chunky and aromatic salmon fillet seared to perfection. It tasted better than it looked and left me wanting more, even though it would have been impossible given the proportions were so brilliantly allocated. The Hollindaise was light enough to not feel sickening and the eggs were poached with excellence. The rosti was crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside, exactly what you want. The Salmon was however the highlight, it melted in the mouth and allowed tastebuds to never be content with anything ever again.
I take my coffee black and long, and was deeply satisfied. The depth and intensity were exactly what an espresso should be. The little Turkish delight was a fantastic touch.
It wasn't perfect however; the staff weren't as friendly as they are at Bodrum, and the lack of amenities as a part of the venue was slightly annoying. The former is perhaps just my impression and is not enough to dampen spirits.
Devon on the Wharf is the most beautiful sister in a family of Beyoncé's. I would recommend this place to anyone, and will be returning as soon as I possibly can. The food and the ambience, alongside a fabulous coffee make this place a must visit this...
Read moreI visited Devon Wharf for the first time, hoping to enjoy a traditional Turkish breakfast experience, but left feeling underwhelmed by the food quality—though a few items did stand out.
I ordered the Menemen, which is usually a rich, flavorful egg dish in Turkish cuisine. Unfortunately, this version was extremely watery and lacked the characteristic texture and taste of eggs entirely. It felt more like a runny tomato sauce than the hearty dish it’s meant to be. The flavors were flat, and I couldn’t identify any of the comforting spice or depth that usually defines Menemen.
Another dish I tried was what was described as a Turkish breakfast with sujuk. While the plate looked good visually, it didn’t live up to expectations in terms of substance. It mainly consisted of scrambled eggs served over Turkish pide (flatbread), with just four small pieces of sujuk—which was surprisingly sparse. Many of the sides and accompaniments seemed like they came from tins or pre-packaged boxes rather than being freshly prepared, which took away from the authenticity and freshness one would hope for in a Turkish-inspired breakfast. Overall, I would rate the breakfast elements a 2 out of 5.
That said, not everything was disappointing. The baklava was crisp, sweet, and well-balanced, and both the coffee and mango frappe were enjoyable. These items showed care in preparation and delivered on flavor, helping to redeem the overall experience.
So while the mains fell short of expectations, the drinks and dessert were pleasant enough to justify a 3-star rating. I might return for a sweet treat or coffee, but would likely give the breakfast menu a...
