Excellent Dinner: First Class Beef Wellington A lovely little family run restaurant in a cute cottage in Grey Street, East Hamilton. This gem of a find is serving unique and creative dishes alongside the classic beef wellington, and I must say as a Brit it was the best I've eaten. It was our 32nd anniversary together and my wife and I wanted an intimate dinner experience, Thyme Square provided that. We booked last minute and assumed the place would be empty but we were proved wrong when the little cottage had 100% occupancy so we were lucky to get in. The starter of three cheese croquettes with a beetroot puree was soft and delicious, although my wife preferred the tuna taco served in a nori taco shell with avocado. The ingredients were fresh and perfectly balanced, more tuna would have been nice but I guess thats the market price. So the big boy on the block is the beef wellington a powerhouse of a dish. Beef Eye fillet (300g) wrapped in prosciutto, mushroom duxelles, puff pastry and a Miso Beurre Blanc cooked pink. we ordered the crispy potato chunks which came with a garlic aioli a perfect combination. We chose the Toberlone Tiramisu. Kahlua dipped lady fingers layered with frangelico creme patisserie and Bailey's ganache with Valrhona cream. The finale was not sugary or sickly, but smooth and rich with a little hidden crunch-I could eat three more. The restaurant is a BYO so please bring your own wine. The staff are lovely and...
Read moreFirst time for any in our party at Thyme Square, and we were all massively impressed. Numerous people have told me this is a fantastic place, and absolutely agree.
We were celebrating our parents 50th wedding anniversary, and it was the perfect place to do this.
From the start it went smoothly. Parking outside, house light up in fairy lights, we opened the door and warm air (much needed on a freezing night) and a lovely atmosphere awaited. This is a house that has been turned into a restaurant, and its just perfect! Small and intimate, warm and cozy, tastefully decorated.
There appeared to be just the chef and one staff member, and they managed to make everything run like clockwork. We were the only ones there for maybe an hour, and then other parties started to arrive.
Food came out at a great pace, and my gosh was it delicious. We had the cheese soufflé, duck ramen, and fish bites for starters, all were delicious. For mains we had the fish of the day (kingfish with mussels), lamb roulade, and the steak Diane. Again all really fantastic! For desert it was the pear pie, cheesecake, and the trio of chocolate. Again faultless.
We all said we would be back, and bringing others.
If you haven't tried this place, 100%...

If you are visiting Hamilton and want somewhere to eat, then look no more.
I would be hard pressed to tell you a better meal I have had when dining out in the last few years, and it would certainly rank in the absolute top 10 of my all time most delish meals. Pressed beef cheek to start, smoked lamb rumb for main and creme caramel meringue to end. I can't even tell you what my favourite was as they were all SOOOOOOOOO good. We were all 'OMG", "have you tasted', 'ohhhhh'. My only piece of advice is to TRUST THE CHEF - it is a set price for 2 or 3 courses ($89 for 3 courses last night) and you don't know what you will be getting. You can tell them if there is anything you do not like but other than that everything is in Chefs hands. When he delivered our meals he simply said its what he likes to eat. Another benefit (to me) was it is BYO, they charge a corkage fee (except Tuesdays) but it works out to be much cheaper. I took a bottle of bubbles and we all know what a bottle of wine costs when buying from the restaurant...say no more.
I cannot recommend the atmosphere, the speed of service, the friendliness of the staff and most importantly the food...
