Really cute little restaurant.
Food was great, nothing wrong with it however I do have a 'but'... nothing unique to set them apart from any other Asian cusine restaurant. Flavors and pricing are similar to other Asian restaurants. I will mention though the chicken katsu was spectacular - plump and juicy chicken. We had a couple of soups and the 6 pork dumplings (we didn't like the dipping sauce). Total spend of $62.50 for 2 people on a Sunday afternoon.
What I did find pretty cool - I could have any soup swapped out for a vegetable broth, which I did. I love spice but wasn't keen for it at the time.
Service was on point- friendly and welcoming.
Great place to go if you find yourself unsure of what to have on some random evening.

Read moreWe were just looking for a place to go out to have dinner and stumbled upon Ajisen in Lincoln Road. I was surprised that we didn't know about this place before. When we got there, there was a queue. Didn't realise we landed on the 2nd day of the opening. The ramen was delicious, comparable to Ippudo in New Market. The vibe was amazing and love the way they've decorated the place.
Maybe due to the hype there was a long queue so the food was delayed. The server was in hurry to get our bowls even before we finished our soup, maybe to free up the space to accommodate the growing queue. We understood.
Expect a lot more from this place in future. West Auckland lacked a proper Ramen place and it's great that we finally got it. Will visit...
Read moreOutstanding food - quality is fantastic and authentic. I had the Mara Beef spicy ramen, and it was legitimately the best ramen I have ever had. I was blown away. My wife had the Katsudon - I had a nibble of the chicken, and it was brilliant. Our little one had the Gyoza - I had one and it was just wonderful, best I have had. I cant praise this restaurant enough. The one downside is the price - its about double what you would be charged in Japan, which is disappointing. Japanese food is no longer exotic in NZ, and hasnt been for a long time. We shouldnt be paying an exotic tax anymore. This is the one thing holding back a 5...
