I visited Invercargill recently to sample the seafood on offer in Bluff. On the way out of Invercargill, my partner and I decided that we might enjoy a hot cup of tea. Being from out of town, we didn't necessarily trust McDonald's choice of tea bag, so we were well stocked with our own delightful tea selection.
We entered the drive thru with anticipation of hot water, to combine with our chosen brew bags. So as to not seem cheap, we ordered a supplementary coke no sugar (medium size - $3.60 - a bit of a rort). We were also prepared to pay for the said hot water.
We were then told by the operator that she didn't know how to charge for hot water. She went and engaged the staff from McCafe who advised her that hot water could not be served to us because.... "the water is too hot". Well I better bloody hope so, otherwise my tea will be less than satisfactory. I scoffed, and asked "do you serve black coffee?" the answer in the affirmative, "and black tea?" I probe further. Yes came the reply. But no hot water? "Sorry it's a risk".
Being a person of principle, I moved the gear stick into reverse and requested the backed up drive thru customers behind me to move. A bit of an inconvenience I am sure but I wasn't ready to see the staff who had withheld the enjoyment of a cup of tea.
I can however recommend the batch cafe, who did supply hot water. We had a...
Read moreIt's McDonald's so you know this fast food is the best at SPEED ( certainly drive through but dine-in at peak times is not ideal and best avoided ) but not a sustainable quality or variety of healthy options at all. You have to now input your order on a touchscreen panel so you are unable to front up to the serving counter and get an actual human to serve and place your order and that's for any item they sell including their soft serve ice cream 🍦 if this is all you want and nothing else. Restaurants are almost the cleanest in the country compared to their competitors in the fast food business on the opposite scale Restaurant Brands KFC would be the worst and best avoided for dine-in at all costs if you want to avoid picking up a transmitted bug from unsatitised surfaces. It's a shame that McDonalds are now only accepting orders in store through their touch screen order panels. But that will be labeled as progress but arguable that it isn't. The customers decide what it is they want at the end of the day. You certainly can't take away that McDonald's is the fastest drive...
