First of all we are from Auckland in Rotorua for a few days and we are Korean BBQ Regulars and have been to a lot of different restaurants fusion or not fusion. first off service was appalling a gentlemen at first didn't want to answer a couple of questions about if we could order fish and chips as well and was told straight out NO!!!! and flogged off to a women. how rude!! We are not rude people and 2 of my older children left and went to another Korean BBQ place around the corner and they had all dishes, sides everything like Auckland. Family House you are so rude service was real bad and you left the meat area and the salad area empty for so long that you didn't have enough dishes for the crowd you had. It was a disappointment for the money we paid and the group we had also. I rang ahead of time to book and was told I didn't need to just arrive. Rice was old and the meat was so frozen it stuck together. Back in Auckland we also had cooked food as well as frozen, clean and separated easy to cook. Dessert was Ice Cream... this place was a waste of money don't bother to enter go to the other places not far from each other around the corner. Feedback from Family House Restaurant whatever you say is going to be rude as well from reading the feedback on the customers reviews. Don't even bother to go to this place at all. I didn't want to give a gold star as well but it wouldn't let me post unless I did. so ignore...
Read moreNOT Korean food. (I lived in Korea for 10 years so my review may be a little harsh).
It's not often I give 1 star but I have to this time. Despite the friendly staff, the food was not Korean. Slightly cheaper than our usual Korean restaurant, I suddenly realized the owners were Chinese, not Korean, which was not a good sign to start, and sure enough, the major accompaniment, the rice, was not the short grained slightly sticky rice it should have been, not only that, the rice was kind of old and dry, the kind of rice you only use for fried rice. I couldn't eat it, it was so bad I went a step further and literally followed a couple of ladies who we had met there earlier and asked them about their meal, and they said EXACTLY the same. So, 0/10 for the rice. The meats were average. There was no Korean soup but packets of instant Miso, Japanese soup. There was no Sesame Oil to eat with the meat (this is always a major accompaniment), I had to ask for some but it tasted odd, I'm not sure what he gave me. The KimChi was OK, average but OK. They did have prawns, which seemed fresh.👍 The meal was cooked on wax paper which was weird, normally it's cooked on a hot plate, I have no idea why they used wax paper. There are at least 2 other Korean restaurants in Rotorua, go to them if you want Korean food. This place does NOT serve Korean food. If you don't want Korean food then I would say it's OK just to eat what...
Read moreFood is terrible, we found a bug in the bokchoy, the meat is so frozen and and thinly sliced, no side dishes a korean place should have (only kimchi) & no ready made food either you have to buy chicken and chips seperately. So not much options for $32. Terrible service, a guy yelled at my sister giving her attitude because she asked if she can buy chicken and chips for her younger kid and he said they not cooking it. We also asked for an extra bbq plate cause we had 10 people and 6 people sharing one plate, 4 sharing the other. She said no. I DO NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE! The reviews said this was the best place for kbbq but it was DEFINITELY NOT! There’s one down the road which my other sister went too cause she refused to eat here and it’s 1000x better, unfortunately it’s pay first then eat otherwise we would have followed. Please there’s other places better than eating here!!! If I could give...
