Alexandre Patisserie — Restaurant in Palmerston North

Tucked away in Coleman Mall is a tiny French patisserie. On entering I found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. There is seating outdoors but lacking in decor. A few potted trees/ shrubs would give the court yard a French style. Inside I thought it was lacking ambience and found it quite sterile. There are magazines to read which is good. Cabinet food with freshly baked bread and rolls which looked very appealing. I made the decision to go sweet and selected a Mille feuille. Unfortunately I was dissapointed instead of a flakey,crispy, airy patisserie it was hard, cold and lacking in flavour. Not the first bad experience with a patisserie here. The best option in Palmy for iced coffee, or patisserie treats. Every single one of their pastry options is fantastic but my personal pick is either a Duchesse or a strawberry tart (and grab a bag of tiny meringues to take away with you, from on top of the counter by the checkout.) Don't forget to check out the savoury choices too. Their croissant filled with creamy mushrooms is incredible, and they also stock fantastic chicken liver pate to take home. The iced coffee here is made with espresso and cold milk, comes in a mason-jar style mug, with a generous scoop of French vanilla ice cream, and no whipped cream. The staff will always greet you with a cheery Bonjour, which gives a chance to use high-school French. Lots of all-weather outdoor seating which is mostly in the shade. I only wish they opened...

We have been coming to your cafe for a number of years and have always looked forward to your almond croissants, they have always been beautiful. Unfortunately I cannot say that for today, the almond filling seems to have changed to some sort of tasteless goo that barely resembles almond paste. I can understand that ingredients have become more expensive, but we would rather pay a little bit more than be served the monstrosity we had today, please put actual almond paste back in your croissants and stop torturing innocent people with this new goo masquerading as...
