Visited in November 2018
We arrived and were welcomed warmly and seated where we pleased. The waitress was friendly enough, however she was on the hard sell for the specials. Making it feel like a need to buy basis, over an option. I was not phased by this attempt at selling.
We continued to browse the menu and make our decision. A few moments later, the waitress returned and took our order. The food a drinks arrived in dribbs and drabs, clearly the kitchen was having some communication issues as we only ordered 3 meals with 1 side.
The food was pleasant enough, but gravely over seasoned, even for my partner who adores salt.
We finished and my partner went to settle the bill. All was well. Later that day I found the receipt for said experience.
On the receipt I noticed we had been charged extra for less items.
I'd ordered a vegetarian version of the gorgeous George. The original contains bacon. I simply asked to replace with spinach. I was expecting the same or lesser charge for the meal, as spinach is a far less costing than bacon is. However I was charged extra.
To add insult, we ordered a small chips (which we recieved) but we were charged a large.
Please pick up your game Joes Garage, this kind of practice will see your clients walk away and tell the world of the unfortunate...

Just responding to your invitation to contact you regarding my review of our experience at Joe's Garage recently. As mentioned, our visit was okay. The seven dollar banana & honey smoothie was very underwhelming, the banana tasted quite bitter, & the honey had not been blended into the mix adequately enough, leaving streaks of honey stuck to the inside of the glass, leaving literally just a banana and milk mix. The breakfast was okay, yet again, nothing I would go out of my way to order again, “bland” to put it bluntly. The fries & gravy was a waste of money, thickly coated in paprika or some other spice, & seriously, the gravy tasted like it was a “just add boiling water” job.
To your credit, the décor & atmosphere is incredible, as well as the coffee. Really can’t fault the place on that. As we are in the accommodation sector, we are subjected to reviews which aren’t always favourable, but hey, “You’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea” We learn, we adjust, & try our best to deliver a product which a high percentage of clients are going to appreciate. Read moreJust went to Joes Garage for a brunch, they were very busy which we didn’t mind. After our eggs on toast came out, we found 2 live caterpillars on our eggs, which were disgusting. A staff member apologised and made us a new plate, and also said that they won’t charge us for our drink. When we went to the counter to pay, the staff read out our menu, then charged us for both our drinks?? There needs to be improvement in both hygiene and communication between staff. Have to say the lady who moved us to the inside table was very nice hence the 2 star review.
Hi there, thanks for your reply. However unfortunately, again there was a miscommunication from your side as we did not receive the second rounds of coffee you are talking about, and the staff clearly said at the time ‘we will not charge you for your drink’. The staff at the counter actually first read out one iced americano’ then corrected herself that it was ‘two iced americanos’. I am not blaming your customer service. All staff were lovely, and yes the situation was handled well, however lacking communication.
