Nice food but extremely horrible lady at the counter. Treating you like you are nuisance. Alhough she was extremely pleasant to white male .
Very small restaurant - no sign that we had to wait at the door nor we had to queue up to order food. We went to sit at an empty table and that horrible lady asked if we had reservation (no reserved sign placed on the table)- i said no and she responded she had to check if they had enough table but she never proceeded checking and we were left waiting. Then i noticed People lining up in front of the counter to order , no sign advising we had to order that way. So i followed other customers . When it was my turn to order i only ordered 3 main dishes as my elderly parents dont eat much and i only have a little child and husband . She told me the food wont be enough for us so i ordered more (it is certainly enough btw she just wanted to cover the cost of us dining in i think) . Money is not an issue for me but people’s attitude is. When I took out my card out to pay after ordering , she told me to pay later. I said i wanted to pay now (seeing how busy they were and i had to queue up fair bit of time to order) - i repeated myself again my intention and asked why cant i pay now, but with no explanation she gave me the commanding look and said i had to pay later. Extremely horrible experience. She seemed to treat the lady ordering before me the same way. My advice is if you are not white people and not a male do not come to the restaurant . That chinese lady only serve male customer with a smile and bit of flirt. She treated you like rubbish when you have chinese background yourself. Never encountered any bad service like this in my entire life . My parents used to own restaurant for 40 years with over a hundred staffs , we treated customer with respect despite their skin color and where they come from. Stay away from this restaurant . They are there to ruin your...

Ordered Dan Dan noodles and wonton noodle soup but the ‘noodles’ used were Italian spaghetti.
Is this some sort of a secret new world fushion restaurant??
I don’t think people came here for Chinese cuisine to eat store bought Italian pasta in Chinese dishes.
The front of house guy was saying how authentic this restaurant is given the lack of Chinese and overall Asian choices there are in Wanaka.
Perhaps they ran out of noodles that were suppose to be used? In that case I’m more than happy to order something else but don’t take your customers for idiots.
Also they used chilli additives which is basically a chemicals substance to make dishes taste spicier as it would cost more to achieve same level with real chillies. Completely over did the dose for the Dan dan noodle dish. I can eat really spicy and this made me choke.
I definitely caught them on an off day because other reviewers have had much better experiences.

Read moreJust arrived into wanaka for the first time coming from chch. Was contemplating between chinese food or Thai.. Mum wanted Chinese food and made a great choice. Chicken fried egg noodles was delicious and the kids even loved it! The roast duck was tasty and succulent, the xiaolong bao was delicious. Mine was juicy 😋 we ordered a vegetable dishes with mushrooms and celery but I forgot what it was called, that was just perfect season to go with all the other dishes. Wonton soup was just right size to accompany our dishes, Ginger beef wasnt bad either.
I know some may criticize about the service, but we weren't expecting 5 star service. We were happy with the genuine service we got from the man, that served us and he was really respectful, besides the food was great enough and pricing was fair for a place in wanaka.
Thank you team, cannot wait to go again when we go there for our next trip
