Disappointing and one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Unfortunately the reviews did not prepare us for the night ahead.
We ordered almost immediately. It took 1 hour for my entree to come out. This was after we inquired twice. My entree came out but my husbands did not. Third time asking for the food, his finally comes out 30 minutes later. I had already finished eating my entree. The entree (dumplings) was fantastic 4.5/5.
We then waited an additional hour for the mains. Again, my dish came out but not my husbands. The main (bang bang chicken) was pretty good 3.5/5. My husbands dish came out 20 minutes after my dish, it was smothered in fresh chilli (he had ordered with no chilli), he ordered San Chow Bow. He attempted to eat the dish, there were whole bits of pork belly (mostly fat), texture of the dish was not great. I would give his dish a 1/5.
After receiving his main, we both took one bite each and decided to walk out. We went and paid for our meals, asked that the last dish be removed from the bill and left. Our dining experience was more than 3 excruciating long hours, we we not even able to eat together on this night out for our honeymoon.
The staff did an amazing job with the resources they had. All the staff seemed to be quite young. They were very apologetic through the night. It was quite obvious they had a staffing issue both the servers and in the kitchen. The couple beside us walked out after ordering...

I spent a long time researching where to eat in Wanaka for my birthday and chose WanaFusion based on glowing reviews—but unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations.
We ordered the pork belly and calamari starters; the pork was dry and clearly not fresh, and the calamari tasted lukewarm like it had been sitting or reheated.
The duck curry I had for a main wasn’t as dry, but still lacked the tenderness and depth of flavour you'd expect from something at this price point.
The chicken stir-fry was the most decent dish, but even that wasn’t anything special.
The real disappointment was dessert: a “pineapple cake with ube ice cream” that turned out to be a canned pineapple ring and what looked like a store-bought ube ice block on a stick—not even close to what was described on the menu.
To be clear, the wait staff were great—friendly and really attentive all night, which was the highlight of the experience.
Unfortunately, nice service couldn’t make up for food that felt rushed, lazy, and overpriced. I wouldn’t return.
Hope this feedback helps the...
Read moreWhat a great restaurant! It has been so long since I've visited somewhere with actually great service. So kind, so friendly. Such a beautiful atmosphere , they've done great with the décor. I was so excited to see that they do Yum Cha so had to try! Everything was so fresh and made from scratch including the pork buns (chefs kiss). the service was a tad slow if I had to give some feedback but these are Covid times so I imagine its harder to roster people on. The experience was so awesome that it didn't bother me at all, I was just excited for the yummy food. We had crispy squid, Cantonese style noodles, steamed prawn and chive dumplings, tiger roll, pork bun and egg tarts and custard buns for dessert. I loved everything but the crispy squid was on another level and the custard buns were made to look like cute little piggies! Ugh just love will be coming back regularly and I've sang praises about Wanafusion to everyone I know already. Wishing you guys all...
