Near the monument is a small viewpoint and park bench. You can spot the memorial easily on maps of Wanaka. It is within walking distance from the town centre and is worth seeing if you are looking for things to do/see around town.

I went over Easter weekend and there was only one other family, visited the next day and there was no one else.
