Mediocre thai food, at best. I would rate it a 2, but I don't like bashing businesses unless they've done me a disservice so have rated it a 3. I would call this food serviceable and lacking inspiration. (Edit: after having some other Thai nearby I decided a 2-star rating is actually generous and have downgraded my ranking to a 2. There's just no excuse for thai food like this).
I order panang curry at every Thai restaurant before I explore other menu options. It's a staple that has never done me wrong. In fact, this is probably my least or 2nd worst panang curry I've never had out of several dozen places (50+ ?) It had enough meat, but there were may be 10 peas in it. I'm used to more, better, and a variety of vegetables. The flavor, as others have said, was more like spiced milk than curry.
Was it better than nothing? I guess... maybe? But I had to pay for it. And it feels like false advertising compared to the glowing reviews and expectations of a restaurant having not just one but two locations in the general area.
The roti bread is always better in a restaurant. Mine was take away, but was very small portions - half of what I would expect, flat and a little better than having no bread at all. But only slightly. The Roti Boom Booms I put in the toaster oven at home are a 7/10, this roti was a 4/10 at best.
I'm really sad to write this review, but with this being a 4.6 rated restaurant I have to echo what someone else said "We collectively need to start rating places as they are otherwise we, the people paying good money for this stuff, will continue to feel slighted and used."
UPDATE: I found Monkee's just down the road. It's not as nice for dine in but the food is absolutely spectacular and you should go...
Read moreAfter stepping foot into this restaurant I must say I'm deeply disappointed and ashamed for being influenced by the misleading ratings. To begin with, the online website falsely advertises its customers into purchasing certain foods due to the fact its online website displays a completely different image to what the food is served like in reality, misguiding customers. Secondly, the quality of the food can be highlighted as unprofessionally made as the rice was extremely hard and by the first bite you could realise it was uncooked. It might just be our tastebuds but the overall taste of the food can be recognised as bland and not well combined. Additionally the presentation and service was also unpleasant because the employees seemed as if they weren't in the mood to provide service to its customers at a standard level. They also presented the food quite imformally, serving them in paper based materials which is quite a lack of profession. This is all to highlight that this restaurant isn't all the hype due to its lack of profession in service and presentation but also the factor of the quality of the food and the...
Read moreIf I could give a zero review, thisâd be it. Me and my friends are from Thailand and, as a matter of fact, weâre all the easiest eaters. Thatâs why we came to this place to try it out. The most disappointing thing isnât just the lack of care in the service, but the food itself was so terrible that I couldnât accept the face that all the staff, including the chefs were Thai.
The somtam and all the stir-fries on rice we ordered didnât even taste authentic. They were completely tasteless, and if you love Thai food enough to even open a Thai restaurant, you should already know what authentic and actual Thai food tastes like. Itâs such a shame that this would be such a bad representation for other tourists of Thai foods.
And while I noticed that New Zealand cares a lot about sustainability, everything here was served on wooden plates instead of actual plates and cutlery. No one wants to dine in and eat off wooden plates, the owner should concern on that.
We spent quite a lot here, and honestly it wasnât worth a...
